Il giovane Montalbano - il ladro onesto

Second season, episode 5 of the series The young Montalbano, episode The honest thief. I liked it, it was nice enough. I still prefer the episodes of the older Montalbano, but this wasn’t bad. It has two mystery-storylines combined, plus the subplot of the main character, all mingled together. First, a girl goes missing, Pamela, and her employer is worried and contacts the police. This is a nice, beautiful girl who likes to have many lovers for short periods of time, who is later found dead, strangled. A phone call had terrorized her and with the help of one of her lovers she had tried to flee back to the north, but hadn’t make it. A guy who had had a story with her when he was still engaged to his now wife, the niece of a local mafia boss, believed she was blackmailing him so he killed her, only Pamela never blackmailed anyone. She accepted gifts if anyone wanted to give her something, but never asked for anything; it was her landlady who always spied on her, who found a note in her room and used it to blackmail the man not knowing his connection to the mafia, nor how dangerous he was. Second story: people report small thefts, saying things like : someone entered my house while I was asleep but only took a small amount of money, not everything that was there for a thief to take; at the same time the ten-year-old child of a rich man is kidnapped. One night the thief entered the house of a lawyer and heard him talk on the phone about it, and understood his involvement and the gravity of the situation, and went to talk to Montalbano about it, thus helping him solve the case and save the child. As a result, Montalbano told the father what the man had done, asking him to give the thief (who only stole what he needed to go on) a regular job so he wouldn’t need to steal anymore.
Among all this, there is the fact that Montalbano is arranging to be transferred to Genova where his girlfriend Livia lives, and only tells Mimì about it, but then he makes a joke about what he’ll do without him when he’ll be in Genova, and everyone hears him and learns about his intentions, and they are all rather upset, Catarella cries a lot and asks him to take him along to Genova, and even tries to learn the dialect :-p, but specially Fazio who is the last one to know.
