Fantozzi - 1975

 This movie is quite old but it made history. The character of Fantozzi is well known and represents the common man with all his faults amplified. He has a wife but is in love with someone else, he is servile with the powerful but merciless if given a tiny bit of power himself. Unhappy about what they do to him, but looking forward to the chance to do the same to them. 

It starts with Pina Fantozzi calling the “Italpetrolcemetermotessilfarmometalchimica”. She’s Ugo Fantozzi’s wife and hasn’t seen him in 18 days, so she dared to call them asking about him. After a search with a human hound smelling his scarf, he is found behind a wall. Meaning he went to the bathroom and was locked in there when the door was covered with a wall.

Everyone in his office is minding their own business, leaving everything to do on his desk. 

He has his alarm at 7.51, the limit to get to work on time. Breakfast while combing his hair, everything is timed to the second, including disparaging thoughts about his wife and daughter, but this morning his shoelaces broke so he’s late for the bus. He tries to catch it on the run but instead he pulls everyone out.

He signs with blood so he’s released from the ambulance that got him after the others from the bus beat him, and manages to stamp his work-card on time.

He’s madly in love with Miss Silvani, but because she insults some drivers he is beaten by them. 

Filini plans many events, like the football match married Vs singles, joined by ‘the employee’s cloud’.

They go camping together, Filini hits his finger with a hammer (twice) so he runs away to scream without disturbing the others.

All the German kids laugh at them when they try to go fishing.

At Christmas, the children tell poems to get a present, but the big bosses laugh and mock Mariangela, so he takes her home.

Some employees get bonuses because they play billiard with the new boss and lose. When Fantozzi is forced to play with the boss and is publicly and repeatedly insulted, he starts playing well and wins. The boss doesn’t take it well. Fantozzi escapes abducting the man’s mother, until she falls for him.

To lose weight, Fantozzi plays tennis with Filini. 

He takes Miss Silvani out to dinner, to a Japanese restaurant where he has them cook her little dog (he meant for them to give the dog some food, they thought he wanted to eat it, since they only spoke Japanese).

For her to forgive him, he paid for other dogs coming from Hong Kong.

He goes skiing with Silvani and Carboni, and is invited to a party by Countess Serbelloni Mazzanti Vien Dal Mare. He gets terribly drunk because he finishes whatever glass he’s given.

He has to go skiing because he lied and said he was a champion. He got back to the others two hours late.

Sad that Silvani got together with Carboni, he changes office and is sent to work with the communist/black sheep. After three months of this, he breaks a window and is called to the Megadirettore Galattico (the super manager), who nobody ever saw.

Fantozzi calls him Majesty and Omnipotent, and swims in his aquarium full of employees.
