It’s “sex&the city”+”desperate housewives” mixed up together, losing something in the process.
I think this was an attempt to recreate the success of those two shows, failing to recreate its spirit.
There’s Joss who doesn’t want a relationship but likes sex a lot until a girl tells her how special she is and she starts a relationship with her (remember Samantha Jones? she was told she was magnificent, but the rest is the same). Mrs Perfect who loses her way, the single mom, hurt after finding out that her husband cheated on her, and the successful doctor who almost loses everything after falling in love with a married man and gets involved in a shooting…
More in details, the episodes:
1-Pilot
Karen: A psychiatrist. Her patient Tom tells her he’s very sick and doesn’t have a lot to live, and that he loves her. She loves him too so they start a love affair. After his death, his wife Elizabeth holds her hand at the funeral, and his son Sam wants to talk to her about his father’s affair.. Karen doesn’t want to talk to him, but he’s persistent. He goes to her office and tells her he’d like to meet dad’s lover to know if he hated him when he died because they had a big fight over the fact that Sam had discovered the affair. Karen goes to their house and Elizabeth tells her he wasn’t alone when he died, she was there and she helped him, he didn’t do it to himself. He had asked for her help and she did it. He had asked Karen’s help too. She tells Sam of his father’s memories of him, and denies being the mistress, of course. Sam buys her flowers and asks her out but she refuses, of course again.
Joss: She works in real estate. She has an affair with her boss but tells him “don’t you dare leaving her” (his wife) because she wants to be free, and as her sister says, she can’t be faithful. He wants to buy her a house as their ‘love nest’ but she refuses. She goes to live with her sister Savy.
April: Has a daughter, Lucy. Her husband Paul has been dead for three years, but she still thinks of him and their perfect life. She receives prank phone calls and thinks it’s Paul’s ghost telling her not to move on. Still she meets the single dad of one of Lucy’s friends and she likes him. They have a date and Joss and Savy are there to help her with the dress when Karen comes to tell them all, so the date’s off. With Savy’s help she finds out who calls her: A woman with a child. She knew Paul and had an affair with him, also a child. She shows up at April’s house to tell her.
Savy: A lawyer. With her husband Harry, they are trying to have a baby, but the doctor tells them it’ll be difficult for him to conceive. He’s very upset and fights with her and she cries. In this fragile state, she has sex with her colleague Dominic who’s crazy about her, and then she cries at home.
2-The morning after
April: tells Savy and Karen about Paul’s son and Savy helps her with a little investigation. Paul had bought Miranda a car. Miranda asks her for money.
Savy: is very troubled about having cheated on Harry. He apologizes to her for the fight, and she tells him she doesn’t want to have a baby.
Karen: asks Jacob’s advice then calls Sam and meets him for coffee. She tells the insurance inspector that Tom was not suicidal. Sam shows up again at her office and she bursts out “I don’t want to see you again Sam. Do you understand?” and “stop bothering me”.
3-Breaking and entering
Joss: has a new boss, Olivier, who says he speaks lots of languages and she tries a few words in Italian (:p) to get his attention but he doesn’t instantly fall for her like other men. When he texts her to meet at a restaurant she shows up dressed for a party but he only talks about work for two minutes then she has to leave her seat to another woman for another work-related-meeting.
She throws a party to sell a house.
Karen: Elizabeth tells her she’s worried about Sam because he dropped out of college. She goes to the house where she used to meet Tom and Sam comes in while she’s there. She escapes unnoticed but leaves behind her sunglasses. Sam finds them and gives them to his mom, thinking he basically told her that Tom was having an affair :-/
Savy: has a hard time working with Dominic after what happened, so she asks her boss to leave the case they’re working on together to him alone, but instead he leaves it to her, taking Dominic off the case, and he’s pretty pissed about it. She finds out she’s pregnant.
April: Richard turns her down because she has “unresolved issues”
4-A kiss is just a kiss?
Savy: it’s official, she’s pregnant. She asks Dominic to go to Court in her place because she’s waiting for a doctor to check who the father is.
Joss: meets her client Alex again.
April: Miranda tells her that Paul wanted to leave her, then he sends an actor to impersonate a lawyer demanding money for her child.
Karen: Sam kisses her but she turns him down.
5-Decisions, decisions
Savy: her husband figures out she’s pregnant just because she apparently has metal breath.. she tells him “I’m pregnant but it could not be yours” and then she tells him everything.
Karen: she hides her emotions very badly, how is it possible that they don’t guess it all?
April: sleeps with Richard
Joss: sleeps with Alex who is not just one of her men because Alex is a girl.
6-Payback
Karen: to please/help Elizabeth she turns in fake notes saying Tom was suicidal.
April: gives Miranda a 100$ check saying she can’t do any better right now.
Savy: tells Dominic she’s pregnant and that it’s Harry’s. Kira makes a move on Harry but he refuses.
Joss: speaks Italian again (:p). She’s very hurt when she finds out that Savy told Karen and April about her pregnancy, but not her.
7-All in
Joss: moves in with April, and has a fight with Alex.
Savy: Harry’s colleague/friend tells him how lucky he is to have Savy who loves him so much to invest so much in his restaurant. She takes him to her firm party, but when Dominic congratulates him on the baby Harry feels mocked and punches him.
April: sees Paul across the street and freaks out. Joss tells her to let Paul go, and in order to do so April leaves her ring on Paul’s grave, which is very silly. Symbolic too, ok, but also very silly because someone will just take it, it’s not like giving it back to Paul! Later Paul shows up at her door, alive and well. “I faked my death”.
Karen: is freaked out because Sam keeps leaving her messages and her security camera doesn’t work so she calls Anthony the insurance guy to fix it. Sam is stalking her.
8-Ultimatum
April: goes to talk to Paul, and he admits everything about Miranda and Scottie, so that’s real for sure, but he adds “I’ve been living with Miranda and Scottie this whole time” so she knew he was alive when she went to her house. Miranda came here without telling him, to scam her for money.
She calls Karen and Savy and Savy calls Joss: they rush to April’s and she explains everything.
She has now proof that Miranda knew that Paul was alive.
Joss: Olivier asks her about Alex whom he met in the elevator, maybe interested in her, so Joss tells him she’s a lesbian. She leaves April’s home and moves in with Alex as friends, but then they make out again. Alex confesses to having “feelings” for her : “I can’t be friends with you anymore” and adds “you have no idea how incredible you are, do you?”. Alex’s friendship is so important to her that, not wanting to lose her altogether, Joss starts a relationship with her.
Karen: finds out that Sam is Jacob’s patient now. Sam shows up at her house. He had broken into her office before and he tells her that he’s in love with her :-/ Karen goes to talk with Elizabeth about it, but finds out that Elizabeth knew she slept with Tom, and Sam hears it.
Savy: She talks with Harry and he starts with “I love you Savy” and she starts crying, maybe thinking he’s about to leave her. He tells her that if the baby isn’t his she’ll have to choose between him and the baby. Savy tells him she’s keeping the baby without waiting for the results of the paternity test. When she receives the results, she doesn’t open the letter but she places it in her desk drawer at work, so that we’ll have to wait. I understand, but this time it’s a little bit annoying because it doesn’t make a lot of sense, you know. The whole “I can’t deal with this right now” is nonsense here, how can she function knowing that the envelop is there but not knowing what it says? After going on and on about?
9-Guess who’s coming to dinner
Savy: Harry moved out. Jenna, her mom, comes to tell them that she’s moving to Rio. Savy and Joss have different fathers. Savy now says the paternity test doesn’t matter and she gives the letter to Joss, to keep it safe.
April: she thinks Paul went back to Florida but he’s still here, surveilling her. He wants to see Lucy. At this point April has to tell Richard about him.
Karen: Paul shows up at her house asking her to talk to April. Karen is worried that Elizabeth might have killed Tom because she already knew of their affair, and thinks of hiring a p.i. . When told about Karen’s notes on Tom being suicidal, Elizabeth plays it shocked, like she knew nothing about it; she set Karen up.
Joss: wanted to go to Rio with her mom, but Jenna takes Diego the bartender with her and leaves her home (they talk about Rio and Joss says Hola and Ciao …. ? )
10-Indecent proposals
Joss: is back in Savy’s house. Savy’s 37, so Joss should be 29. She plans a kinky night for Olivier’s clients: she takes them to a place where girls dance in S&M costumes… then Olivier’s rental car arrives, and it’s a Delorean because he loves Back to the future :-)
Savy: her firm summoned Karen for filing a false report. She can’t talk about the case with Karen. Dominic goes to work at Savy’s house but Joss tells him he’s not gonna win because Savy loves Harry. Honestly this Savy in jeans and boots looks better than the other one. She finds it hard to live on her own because she hasn’t done anything in years because Harry wanted to do everything himself. (Come on, she’s a successful lawyer, isn’t she supposed to be organized, precise about deadlines? How could she forget her bills?)
April: tells Paul to go back to his family in Florida. Richard goes to tell Paul to leave April and Lucy alone and they fight. April goes to Paul to show him a picture book on Lucy telling him that’s all he’s gonna get and that he has to leave afterwards.
Karen: is frustrated with Savy and the case. Elizabeth is not after money, she wants to ruin Karen.
Sam sends her a good lawyer, then offers to alibi her for the night Tom died, then they kiss and have sex..
11-Full disclosure
Karen: she has to give her deposition. Elizabeth accuses Karen of killing Tom, and she says she was out of the house, with Sam! She asked him to alibi her and he couldn’t refuse. Her lawyer wants Jacob to lie for her to alibi her, but Karen doesn’t want him to, so she prevents him from talking and says instead that she was home alone. She tells the whole truth.
April: April and Richard take the girls out. April and Richard make up and he suggests telling Lucy about Paul so she won’t have to lie for the rest of her life. She wants to tell her after picking her up from school, but she’s missing.
Savy: Harry just assumed that the baby wasn’t his because Savy didn’t call him, but she doesn’t know yet; Joss did not open the letter either.
Joss: she sleeps with Olivier.
12-When one door closes
Karen: the judge dismisses the case just like that, so she’s free. She gets suspended for six months for what she did. Jacob turned her in, he’s hurt she lied to him for months and wants to end their partnership.
Joss: after finding out that Joss slept with Olivier, Alex leaves her. Joss accuses Olivier of ruining her relationship. He’s off to Paris and she gets promoted manager but she quits instead. She gets totally drunk, Harry brings her home and she leaves him alone with Savy’s test results :-/ and later she sees that the letter is gone. Obviously.
Savy: Dominic is to be made partner, and Savy is happy for him. She has a date with him, and it goes well, they laugh and smile :-) Savy pays for Harry’s restaurant’s debts: 25000$.
13-I choose you
Karen: learns that Elizabeth used to be a regular in the psychiatric ward. After Sam tells Elizabeth that he slept with Karen too, she goes to Karen’s house with a gun. Tom’s last words were: I want Karen. Karen tries to call 911. Elizabeth wants to stage her suicide, but Karen opposes her, then Sam comes to her rescue, and we hear a shot. End of season.
Savy: wants to get the letter and find out who the father is, but Joss tells her that Harry stole it, then Savy drives all shaken up and gets herself in a bad car accident. At first it seems that both April: leaves Richard :-/ Paul is at Savy’s hospital to be with April, saying he’s never gonna leave her alone again, but by doing so he’s ignoring Miranda and his other son :-/ (doesn’t seem to me like he’s all that changed after all) so she sends him back to them.
Savy and the baby pulled through, which was rather incredible seeing the accident… Harry tells them to call Dominic because he’s the father, but then he tells Savy that he doesn’t care, he chooses her… then Dominic tells her that he loves her and always has.
