The tourist - 2010

I liked it more the second time than the first one, probably because they made such a fuss around this movie when they were shooting it, that I expected more, much more first time I saw it. Of course all the fuss was not because of the film but because of the actors, two famous names together.
As always, being an action movie, there's a lot of nonsense, but all in all is a nice enough film.
The story: there's an English man, Alexander Pierce, who stole a lot of money belonging to Reginald Shaw, a nasty gangster, whithout paying his share in taxes... already this part was quite confusing to me... how did the government get to him? How can they tax money stole from a gangster? Maybe I'm missing something here, because I thought stolen money was, as they say, tax-free... anyway, to escape both Shaw and the police Alexander disappeared for two years and had a surgeon give him a new face and identity. Elise Ward (Angelina Jolie) was assigned to him by the English Police, but she fell in love with him. For the last two years they've followed her, sure that he would come back to her, one day. She's in Paris, and she receives a letter from Pierce: take the first train to Venice and find a man with my height and built like me; following the instructions she burns the letter right there at the bar then she leaves without waiting for it to be destroyed.. it burns, the waiter throws water on it and yet inspector Acheson (Paul Bettany) could put it together using a computer: it looked to me like wet dust, but he put it together like a jigsaw puzzle. Anyway, once on the train she looks at all the men then stops in front of Frank (Johnnie Depp); she sticks to him while on board, then in Venice they meet again and she kisses him to make it look like he's Pierce, but Shaw is also there, warned by an English policeman who called him using his own cell phone and speaking all the names, it looks like he's not a bit worried of being suspected, ever..
Shaw makes everything dangerous, and since Elise likes Frank she keeps helping him. She starts to dislike this plan, she never thought Pierce would put in such danger an innocent man. When she's face to face with Shaw, her life threatened, Acheson lets things go too far, refusing any intervention, sure that Pierce would show up to save her. He's obsessed with catching him, but instead Frank appears at her rescue. Luckily for both of them, the chief inspector (Timothy Dalton) orders his men to shoot, so all the gangsters lay now dead and Elise and Frank are safe. Left alone, because after all they're an agent and a simple tourist, Elise admits she loves Frank, and Pierce too. To think that she has stated before that she hates to be ordered what to do, or to be summoned, which is exactly what Pierce has done the whole time! And not just that, he also played her, because now Frank reveals to be Pierce himself, and yet she still loves him and follows him... well, complicated woman I guess, but that's okay, a woman has the right to be, or at least she should, and the heart is often complicated.
They go away leaving a cheque for 744 millions, all the taxes he owes, so now he's not wanted any more, and the gangster is dead: freedom!
I liked her look at the party, she had a sort of Sofia-Loren-look, with her hair like that and all, and she looked better that away. Long hair make her face too long. I know though that to let your hair down is often considered more sexy.
Rufus Sewell had a small role as the Englishman hired by Pierce. Is he of Depp's same height and build? He always seemed taller to me.
There were many Italian actors here: Nino Frassica (oh my) was thrown in the water by Depp, Christian De Sica (gosh) was a corrupted cop who sold Pierce to the gangster, Raoul Bova (no words)was the count at the party.. although this is a republic, at least officially, so he won't hear me calling him  a 'count'. Then there were Daniele Pecci and Alessio Boni as Italian policemen.  Neri Marcorè played the hotel concierge: I like him, he's a funny comedian, he makes really good impressions.
A few others I don't know at all.
