From the ashes by K. J. Emrick

An easy read like the others, a little nicer than the second, at least she got nobody arrested this time..
her investigation skills are zero as always, but I can't understand how can she know all about warrants and subpoenas and yet she needs explanations when she hears 'death by blunt force trauma' which pretty much explains itself :-/
Also nobody died in this book and Darcy didn't start it all herself. Her friend Linda asked her help for a friend, 19-year-old Sarah. When she was four her house burned down and her mother died in the fire, and she wants to know more about it. Darcy tries to communicate with her but can't, so she thinks that Angelica might still be alive.
Sarah's father Louis never answers his daughter's questions about her mother, and he gets very angry at Darcy for meddling.
There's a new waitress at Helen's bakery/café since she has a lot of work now that she's the new mayor, and seeing that there are burnt scars on Elizabeth's cheek Darcy thinks she might be Angelica,  actually she's pretty sure it's her, enough to take Sarah to meet her, but as soon as she sees her  Sarah says that she's not, because she'd know her mother's eyes anywhere...
At the town festival, Sarah looks at old Henrietta (we didn't know her before of course, now they tell us she only comes to town for the festival to sell her jars of jam) and sees in her her mom's eyes. Angelica confesses right away. She said that she was so happy when Sarah was born but in those four years things changed, she and Louis fell out of love.. and then she fell for another man, Milton. She didn't know what to do so she took half the money and burned the house to fake her death...
She says she thought Sarah was away..
After something like eight years Milton died of heart attack. She broke into her old house a few times to see Sarah, so Louis knew she was alive but didn't say anything.
Why? Was he still angry that Angelica left him for Milton? That would be so lame :-/ He left his daughter think that her mother was dead, never talking about her... :-/
Angelica had surgery and acted like an old woman to come in town once a year to see her.
At the end Jon tells Darcy : "you reunited a mom and a daughter" ... well, the mother is in prison and the daughter should be very much pissed off, in my opinion, both with her and with her father!

Side story: Darcy's mother comes to visit, she acts strangely, hugging them both, and she wants to meet Jon. At the end she admits that she has news, she's going to remarry... just that, so I don't really see the reason for her strange behaviour, why all the hugs?
Never mind, doesn't matter..
