Monk and Sharona play chess. In the middle of the game he has to ‘center’ all the pieces, then tells her to change her move or he’ll take her queen, so she licks it :-p and he starts saying that’s illegal, that there is an unwritten rule about licking your queen, and she says he’s been sexually harassing every piece on the board... :-p then trying to move on he makes his move - not touching the queen - when they get a phone call. They go without finishing the game. Monk: “then you forfeit” :-)
They park in a handicap spare, although there seemed to be lots of space... :-/
It’s the same school were Trudy went on a scholarship. The vice-principal went to school there with Trudy (Rosalind Chao) and she says they were like sisters. She called him for help because an English teacher died. The police call it a suicide but she doesn’t believe that. Before letting Monk in to the crime scene, the captain checks with Randy if they missed anything :-p
The suicide-note has mistakes, and she was an English teacher! As soon as he talks with the guy - who we know had an affair with dead Beth, and was pissed that she insisted on him telling his wife about them - Monk is sure he did it, although he was in a class when she landed on his car.
To stay around, Monk acts as substitute teacher :-p by the time he writes his name on the board and Sharona comes to help him - because a kid throw chalk on him - the hour is gone :-p
The kid’s father , a very aggressive gym teacher, threatens him. The gardener tries to blackmail the murderer and is killed. Obviously.
Monk is afraid he’ll get away with it: “I think this guy is smarter than me” and Sharona “nobody is smarter than you” :-) which is true because the guy fell for the oldest trick :p and is arrested - he put the dead body on the clock minute hand, horizontal at 15, but at 25 it fell.
Lovely episode for the Trudy theme and Trudy’s tree...
2- Mr Monk goes to Mexico
In Mexico, a guy jumps off a plane, the parachute doesn’t open, he dies. The autopsy reveals that he drowned!
We see Monk trying to post a letter and checking if it goes in, and waiting to see it picked up, and he even wants to follow the mailman to make sure he doesn’t drop anything so Leland sends Randy after the mailman :-p
At the border they open all his cases :-p but they get stolen :-p now he doesn’t eat or drink anything :p while Sharona beats two guys at the drinking game all by herself :lol: then she comes back to the hotel completely drunk and he goes out by himself... the next morning the police tell her that he’s dead and they even call the captain. As soon as they tell Sharona that he crawled thru mud and garbage she knows it wasn’t him, then he comes in, so so thirsty :-p Someone tries to kill him again. Monk figures it out and hurries to leave. The doctor killed two boys - one last year - two rich kids from San Francisco, two impossible murders, so Monk would come down and he could kill him..
3- Mr Monk goes to the ballgame
Benji loses a baseball game and Sharona tells Monk to go talk to him: “he respects you” - “he does? why?” - “because he doesn’t work for you” :-p Benji plays against the captain’s son, an older kid.
When the captain starts a fight at his son’s game, a man quits and they ask Monk to take his place or they won’t be able to go on, and he starts cleaning everything :-p At the end Benji will finally hit the ball :-)
Lawrence Hammond and his wife are killed; “girls can’t eat 15 pizzas” were the man’s last words.
Monk can’t talk to a man because he’s nude, at a painting class. Sharona: “you’ve seen yourself naked right?” - “once” ... how does that work??
The murdered woman had an affair with a baseball player, Benji’s hero; Monk: “I thought I was Benij’s hero” :-p Monk has him teach baseball to Benji :-D
He and Monk lost the woman they loved and when he asks how to go on, Monk says that he was a detective when Trudy fell in love with him, so he keeps working, trying to be the man she loved (well, I thought they started going out in college..).
He says something else that makes Monk understand the cryptic message: GCE15P=girls can’t eat 15 pizzas=it’s a plate number. Monk recognizes the man from a photo the police pull out a security camera.
He cleans an autograph of Michael Jordan off a ball!!
The player was about to break a record. A guy, Browning, had a ball that was worth a lot of money, but would be worth nothing if the player’s record got broken, and that’s why he killed the player’s lover... :-/
4- Mr Monk goes to the circus
Someone ‘acrobatically’ kills a man. After sending away an admiring cop because his socks didn’t match, Monk asks the captain “there’s a circus in town?” right before Randy tells them that the victim was the Master of Ceremony at a circus. Monk goes there to investigate.
Sharona is scared of elephants and Monk tells her to suck it up making her angry, so she doesn’t give him the handkerchief and she drinks from his bottle, telling him to suck it up..
Monk suspects the man’s ex-wife, but she has a broken foot. The elephant’s caretaker, or something, saw her and knows how she did it, and doesn’t want money, he wants her..
Sharona now doesn’t even speak to him; he said sorry but it’s not enough, she tells him he doesn’t get it, and his therapist agrees, and Monk gets upset when he tells him he knows why but won’t tell him because he has to figure it out himself. Monk tells Sharona that her fear is irrational while his fears are based on facts :-/ still, later he takes her to the elephant to get to know her and win her fear, and the elephant kills her trainer in front of her eyes.
Monk starts taking care of shocked Sharona but of course she ends up taking care of him.
The solution is pretty obvious, the woman was perfectly alright when she murdered the man, then she had the elephant step onto her foot with the same command that she gave her when she had the poor creature kill her trainer.
At the end, Sharona wins her fear of elephants, but Monk will never really ‘get it’.
5- Mr Monk and the very, very old man
The captain’s wife makes documentary films. She made a film on the ‘oldest man in the world’, then he died and she thinks that he was murdered. He was 115, so the captain doesn’t believe her. Still, to make her happy he calls Monk. He is sure it’s not murder, but Monk says that it is :-p
The body is exhumed, there’s an autopsy and yes, he was!
When Leland’s wife kicks him out, Monk offers him hospitality, saying that he was there for him, so the captain accepts and brings in his bags saying ‘shouldn’t be more than a few weeks, it’l be fun’.
He’s feeling very low, doubting his ability, saying that it’s since that hit-and-run case that he went off - when a 17-year old died and nobody confessed.
At a house, during their joint investigation, there are snakes on the loose. Monk jumps on the table :p
then we see him outside with Sharona, refusing to go inside until they find the missing snake :p
Monk and the captain are driving each other crazy and not sleeping. Leland says: “I love my wife, I have never loved her or missed her more”. Then he loses it, shouts that he’ll go home and beg his wife to take him back, but Monk points out that she won’t do it because he hasn’t seen her movie yet, so they watch it together, and the captain solves the case. The mayor’s aid killed the old man, also a security guard and the kid five years before.
The captain and his wife make up, they love each other and he goes back home :-)
Monk has already put his bags in his car :lol:
6- Mr Monk goes to the theater
Sharona takes Monk to see a play, and during a scene a man dies for real. Her sister Gail is accused of murder because 300 people saw her stab the man.
Sharona’s mom is coming, and she thinks that she’s Monk’s partner.
Monk tries to buy information from a man with four dollars...
Monk has to join a speed-date event to talk to Jenna, Gail’s understudy who has the job now that Gail’s in jail. He finds it horrible and says “Thank God I’m not single” - Sharona: “you are single!”.
Since Monk memorized all the lines, the director asks him to fill in for two shows, but there’s trouble ahead of course. For instance, he can’t turn the table over... :p
Still, after meeting Jenna he’s sure that she did it somehow. Monk goes to talk to Gail in jail, but he’s bothered by the cord of the phone :p
Jenna put something the man was allergic to on stage, and when he fell down because of the allergy and someone asked for a doctor, Jenna’s dad pretended to be one, got on stage and stabbed him for real.
While Monk is on stage, Jenna understands that they know and tries to stab him for real but Sharona runs in and fights her :)
At the end: they take a family picture, with a timer, and Monk keeps changing the people’s places :p
7- Mr Monk and the sleeping suspect
Monk’s doctor is about to go to Costa Rica for three weeks on vacation.
It’s one day to Benji’s birthday party and Monk doesn’t know what to get him. He gived him a rock-polishing kit, but it’s not exactly a kid’s gift... Benji’s father Trevor shows up after six years. Trevor wants Sharona and Benji to go to New Jersey with him.
A woman receives a bomb in the mail and dies, and the Feds help in the case. Monk thinks one of her brothers did it, the one in a coma... Monk goes to talk to him about his problems since his doctor is not available: “I’m so tired of being different, I’m exhausted”.
There’s another bomb’s package at the coma guy’s house. Monk’s there, he takes it and throws it in the toilet. He still believes that this Brian did it. The other brother received a bomb package too, and when Sharona has it Monk has to cut the wire to save her.
Brian glued the bombs inside the mailboxes, and after some time they fell down and were delivered. His plan was to get arrested to get the best alibi.
Sharona figures out Trevor’s plan, why he wanted them back, which is so that his rich uncle won’t cut him off, and she won’t leave anymore.
Monk is on the doctor’s front door when he comes home, but he sees Monk and doesn’t stop :-p
8- Mr Monk meets the playboy
Sharona has to cut Monk’s hair because, funnily enough, every time he goes to his barber, it’s closed :-p
Elliott dies in his private gym while on the phone with Dexter (Gary Cole). Elliott’s assistant thinks that it might be a murder, while all the others thought it an accident. The captain and Randy are all ‘you’re on your own’ until they learn that his first step is to go to the ‘Sapphire Mansion’, full of cover girls in bikini - Monk’s the only one looking away, uncomfortable with any kind of nudity - at which point they suddenly decide to go with him :-/
The morning of the death Dexter was at home with a girl, but Monk’s not convinced. He has Sharona play golf with them, and Monk is her caddy :-p so that he can ask questions. He’s sure that he did it, and asks “how did you do it?”; now Dexter shows him pictures of Sharona to blackmail him!! For a little while he stops, when they all think that he did it he says “I was wrong, I don’t think he did it”, but Sharona knows that he’s lying, so he tells her everything. They were naked pictures of her when Benji was one year old and she was desperate, and the guy promised to publish those pictures if they don’t look away. Sharona won’t stand for it, they go back to the mansion and she wants to talk to Dexter, and after their talk she’s so angry that she’s all “get him!”.
Monk talks about his wife to the girls there, even reads Trudy’s poems to them, making them all cry.
Sharona goes home and talks to Benji telling him everything: “mom, you can’t let somebody get away because I might have a bad day at school” (of course because if the pictures are published people will talk about her).
Monk solves the case. His alibi girl changes her mind and accepts to testify against him and gives him back jewels and Ferrari because Sharona convinced her to make the right choice so her little girl will be proud of her - I suppose, because we don’t actually hear this conversation.
At the end, after they arrest him, Randy finds Sharona’s pictures and burns them in front of her. Only Monk and Randy saw those pictures, but now nobody else ever will.
9- Mr Monk and the 12th man
Mrs Lane of Monk’s dry-cleaning place charges him more :-p He’s all upset because she sew a button and the thread is ‘parallel’, not ‘criss-cross’, and now he thinks everybody’s staring at his button..
Sharona is dating a guy who is running for mayor. She gets lots of attention now and has less time for him, but to have her with him on a stake out he invites Kenny too :p
A man and a woman are killed and Monk thinks it’s a serial killer because both times he paid with a ten dollar bill with sequential numbers.
Monk keeps moving the car back and forth to reach a more pleasant km-number, he gets distracted and a man gets killed right there. All the victims served together on a jury six years ago. Only one is alive now, 11 victims found in total .The captain suspects the 12th juror, but Monk doesn’t, and he believes him. Even if both the captain and Monk believe him innocent, Kenny doesn’t care and he goes public with the wrong man’s name.
Someone in the jury found out at the time of the trial that the guy being sued for an accident had murdered his first wife and blackmailed him, and not knowing which juror it was he tried to kill them all. Of course they get him, but the solution was more ridiculous than ever this time: Monk’s proof is that his dry-cleaning lady is ‘the only one’ who sews buttons with parallel threads?? Come on, a lot of people do that :-/
10- Mr Monk and the paperboy
A kid is killed when someone steals Monk’s newspaper. He delivered the newspaper but went back to put it ‘at the centre’ of the mat and the thief killed him. Monk’s home is processed as a crime scene, lots of people in it, trying to use the bathroom, wiping their feet on his mat, with the dog sneezing on his couch...
Monk is upset because Sharona is stronger than him.
Monk introduces himself to a suspect like this: “I am Adrien Monk. THE Adrien Monk” ...
That guy killed someone in a hit&run but not the paperboy. There’s another case in the paper, they call the French police and Monk solves that case too.
Monk’s neighbour has a new girlfriend, and she kills her coworker, we see that, with a bottle, and Sharona is the one to notice lipstick on the bottle.
Benji baits Monk and he wants to arm-wrestle and she lets him win and he’s all proud, until he notices her winking at Benji.
Talking with his doctor, Monk tries to avoid the question about his sex-life with Trudy. He only talks about holding hands :p then he sings to avoid saying more..
Throwing the newspaper away, finally Monks notices the numbers of the winning ticket. His neighbour Kevin won the lottery: 43 million dollars. His girl Vicky gave him the ticket and she knew his numbers. She kept him distracted so he wouldn’t see that he had won, and worked to have him marry her. Monk and Sharona get there too late to stop the marriage, but they still reach them before she can kill him. They save him :-)
11- Mr Monk and the three pies
- In this episode Turturro was really great.
Monk has a brother: “I consider myself an only child” and “we are not close”, and “he has issues”...
He lives ten minutes away, but they haven’t spoken in seven years.
He has agoraphobia, he can’t leave the house, but Adrien is pissed because he didn’t go to Trudy’s funeral and never called... their father went away when he was eight and never came back.
Ambrose (John Turturro) can speak 7 1/2 languages. Their mom died in 1994. Adrian is the ‘fearless’ of them :p
Ambrose says he thinks that his neighbour killed his wife. Sharona hugs Monk because they make her family look normal :-p
Monk investigates. Ambrose is sort of better than Monk: “this detective stuff is easy” :-p
Sharona tries to make him go outside but he can’t, a remarkable scene.
She tells him that Adrien is scared too but he goes out anyway “now you tell me what does he have that you don’t have?” - “he has you” ... awww...
Ambrose has every newspaper since 1972. That man killed a woman to get her pie. He wins the second and third prize at Bingo. Randy: “put the pie down and step away, step away from the pie” :p
so when the man killed his wife, a bullet case went into one of the pies. Monk’s sure that it must be in the third pie, but it wasn’t.
Ambrose is still waiting for his dad to come back. Finally: Monks showdown. Adrien says that Ambrose never called, when he needed him the most, after Trudy died. Ambrose says that it wasn’t because he didn’t care: “do you know why Trudy was in that parking garage on the day she died? it was because of me, she was doing me a favour”. She went to buy him cough syrup or something. He cries saying sorry and “it was my fault” and Monk says no and consoles him...
The bullet case was in the flour bag now in Ambrose house. The guy sets fire to it to lure him out. He can’t by himself but Adrian gets him out. He took the bullet with him.
Adrian takes Ambrose to Trudy’s grave, then Adrian asks him if he wants to eat somewhere and Ambrose says “I’d rather just go home” - “I thought you might”. They start going then Ambrose: “would you like to help me.. clean up?” - Adrain laughs “I thought you’d never ask!” :-p
12- Mr Monk and the tv star
Tv star Brad’s ex-wife is killed, apparently while he was outside with the paparazzi.They all heard her scream, he ran inside and came out immediately all bloody, saying she had been shot.
Brad (Billy Burke= Stroh in Major Crimes and FBI Dean in Rizzoli&Isles).
At a bar, Monk orders a scotch only to level the bottle with the water one next to it. Problem is, the guy sitting next to him hears it all so he keeps ordering water so Adrian buys the scotch and gives it to him because he doesn’t drink... These are the silly bits I don’t much like..
Monk and Sharona go to see Brad filming his detective show and Monk is all critic about it and about how absurd it is... Brad is very charming and they are all charmed by him, all but Monk who thinks he’s a murderer. Brad’s biggest fan Marcy confesses to the murder, but only because she knows that Brad did it and wants to protect him. The screaming voice was taken from the woman’s only film, so when he ran inside she was alive, he stabbed her then.
The end: Marcy goes to Monk’s house at midnight, she’s kind of crazy :-p
13- Mr Monk and the missing granny
An old woman is abducted. Her granddaughter calls Monk, telling him she can’t pay him but she can have him reinstated.
The kidnappers call and demand that they give a free turkey dinner to all the homeless; Monk and Sharona help waitressing, and Monk is bothered because just one man doesn’t want gravy..., and there she is, the lady got released.
Randy is allergic to cats.
The captain lets Monk sit in during an interrogation and he’s happy.
There was an attempt on him in the library.
The girl’s plan is to file a complaint because no-one can be fired for their disabilities... Monk asks “Am I disabled?” but it’s his only way, so he goes along with it. He has to take a test, but: there are two pencils and he can’t decide, it’s not perfectly sharp, he keeps erasing his name because not perfect... basically he doesn’t even do it.
Case solved, the couple that kidnapped the granny actually wanted her chair, that’s why they took her away tied to her chair. It’s worth a lot of money.
End: Monk puts his uniform away but Sharona hangs it back in the wardrobe.
14- Mr Monk and the captain’s wife
Someone kills a driver causing an accident that involves Leland’s wife.
The captain tells Monk that it’s time to think of the future “what future?” - “your future” - “I don’t have a future” :p he can’t let go of Trudy.
It’s garbage day and Monk tells the guys how and where to put ‘his’ garbage, which is sector nine, and they say yeeeah because behind Monk there’s the captain showing his badge.. a nice scene actually. Randy tells the captain about Karen, and at the hospital Monk understands him perfectly - not wanting to lose his wife - so he investigates, he says “the place you’re in now, that’s where I live” to the angry captain.
Sharona picks up a stray dog and calls it Adrian :p then she gives it back to its owner.
Karen’s awake finally. They have two sons. Karen asks Monk to take them to a restaurant, because nobody else can. The restaurant is hell for Monk, they even dance, but the kids are lovely actually.
Surprise-surprise(not-really) the dog owner is the shooter.
The captain was ready to barge in full force against the union, but Monk has the solution. The guy’s car got toed away but there was a gun in there that he had to retrieve so he shot the driver, then another one to make it look like the union strike people did it.
With a search warrant they go to the guy’s house and find nothing; Monk figures it was in the garbage and runs after the garbage-truck, jumps in and starts throwing out on the street the bags, with his bare hands... They find the proof of course.
At the end, Karen’s home and they’re together again :-)
15- Mr Monk gets married
Randy’s mom got married. They are in therapy already, for their honeymoon. Sharona and Monk go there too, as a married couple. He forbids her to use the bathroom, refuses to sit down at the picnic, and in therapy he talks about his wife and how he made her laugh...
The antique owner who married Randy’s mom did it to enter this place and search for some hidden treasure. They follow him into a mine but he knows it and buries them inside.
The therapist wants them to kiss, but they refuse then they barely touch lips and he washes mouth and lips a lot...
Randy finds the owner’s partner dead in a closet in the shop. The treasure is in the journals: gold ink. That’s why the man 125 years ago wrote so many diaries. The guy tries to get away but Randy stops him and frees them :)
16- Mr Monk goes to jail
A man about to be executed dies of poison. Monk and Sharona go to the prison, and it’s a terrible experience for Monk.
Dale the Whale is also there and calls for them (Tim Curry). He tells them that if Monk solves this murder he’ll tell him all about who killed his wife... prison handshake :lol: Monk finds another body in the freezer, the man paid to poison the guy because he was about to reveal something.
Monk wants to go undercover as an inmate, to talk to the very dangerous Spider (Danny Trejo). Monk is in his cell. He retrieves Spider’s watch so Spider answers honestly his questions. Turns out the librarian that sent him in was actually lying, and she tries again to have him killed sending him into a trap. The guy was killed to ruin his organs because he was an organ-doner and his normal death would have saved the life of a man she wanted to die, to get his inheritance. Spider knows now that Monk’s a cop but still comes to save him.
Dale the Whale tells Monk that the bomb was meant for Trudy herself, not for him, like he thought, and also gives him the name of a man involved, a man in New York.
