Not bad at all, I kinda liked it. It was silly, of course, but also funny and enough well done. I wasn’t fond of the Mouse character because he was always so loud, but other than that, I liked them.
It starts with a man finding a board game and giving it to his son, who refused to play it because he only liked videogames. So the game changed, it became a videogame. The kid played it and disappeared insode the game.
Twenty years later: Spencer is good in school, Fridge is in the football team and onlu uses Spencer to do his homework even though they were once best friends, as children. Bethany thinks only of being pretty, making selfies, and videochatting in class. It earns her a detention. Martha earns one for refusing to take part in gym class, Spencer and Fridge get one for cheating. They’re supposed to clean a room, but only Spencer and Martha do anything. Fridge finds the game, and they all choose a character. They hear drums, they unplug the game but it goes on anyway and they’re sucked into it.
They all become the character they chose: Spencer is Bravestone, Fridge is Mouse with the backpack, Martha is Ruby the redhead, and Bethany is a man, professor Shelly. They freak out, Bethany because she doesn’t have her phone, and that’s the first death because Shelly is eaten by a rhino.
A Npc character tells them what they have to do: lift the curse on Jumanji. A bad guy stole the jewel of Jumanji, but the npc retrieved it already, and gives it to them. They only have to put it back in its right place, as the eye of the jaguar statue. They’re given a map that only ‘Shelly’ Sheldon can read, can see, because he’s the cartographer.
Bravestone is the hero with no weaknesses, Ruby’s is venom. Mouse’s are speed, strength and cake.
First level was From the deep, now the second is The mighty roar, and motorbikes attack them. They shoot Ruby, she dies once. Next they jump into a river, then have to reach the Bazaar. Fridge kills Bravestone once losing him a life; then Mouse loses one eating a cake thinking it was bread.
They all have two lives now. Mouse defangs a black mamba and they find a little elephant statue. The bad guys come, they want their jewel, but Alex appears and helps them escape. Alex lives in a hut in the jungle, built by Alan Parrish. Alex thinks he’s been in Jumanji a few months at least. Alex was the missing piece they had to find. Now they must pass the transportation shed, then the canyon and the jaguar statue.
Alex could not get past that, and got scared having only one life left. Hearing him talk, they ask Alex the year, and he thinks it’s still 1996, but actually he’s been in the game for twenty years.
Ruby distracts the guards, and when flirting fails, she turns to dance fighting (which seemed to me to be the less well-done scene of the movie). They find a helicopter; the motorbikes are back, they fly away. They can’t go high. Albino rhinos chase them. Spencer fixes the helicopter but Mouse dropped the jewel. Spencer throws him out to distract the rhinos and get the jewel back.
A mosquito bit Alex and he was dying, but doing cpr Bethany/Sheldon gave him one of her lives. They flew over the canyon already, and walk to reach the statue. Bravestone gets killed by a live jaguar. Fridge gives them direction as if it was a football game. Ruby beats up a few riders, and they all work together to beat the bad guys that arrived to stop them and finish the game.
Spencer, Fridge, Martha and Bethany are together, back in their world and their time, but Alex is not with them, and they don’t know why. When they walk to his house, it is now different. Alex went back to his own time, so to his family he never disappeared. He grew up this last twenty years, had a family, and called his daughter Bethany.
The four kids are all friends now.
