Revenant - 2015

I’ve seen it, let’s write about it and never watch it again. Yes, it might very well be a good movie, well done, well played, and everything, but let’s talk about the story and what the audience gets. The plot is: In the 1820s a guide survives an attack by a Native American war tribe, is attacked by a mama-bear and she bites him, shakes him, cut his throat, even falls on him full weight after she dies, and he’s still alive. A man who was supposed to protect him almost suffocates him to death to be free of the burden, but he survives and the man kills his son, so he wants revenge. It’s freezing cold, snow anywhere, he has no medicines, but he survives and moves on in his search for the man. He attacks some French shits freeing a girl who was being raped, and flees on a horse. Attacked again by a tribe, he falls down a cliff with his horse but lands first on a tree and then on the snow. Since the horse died (but he didn’t), he empties the animal’s body and gets inside to survive the cold. 

Finally reaching the men that had hired him as a guide, he learns that the man he’s looking for has escaped with all their money. He finds him and fights him. He’s injured but he wins. Instead of killing him directly, he leaves him to the tribe that instantly kills the guy. They spare him, though, and he moves on. He sees his dead wife, close up on his face, the end. Will he give up and die right there? Will he not give up and try to survive but die anyhow, now that he has no more his revenge to fire him? Or will he make it somehow, since apparently nothing can kill him? Who knows.

He says two or three lines in the whole movie, and even if there are other characters, the movie is entirely about him not dying. He was able to kill the grizzly, his son is stabbed and dies, the horse falls down and dies, and yet every time he doesn’t. His throat was cut open, he stayed there under the bear until the men found him and they roughly patched him up as they could, and he didn’t die. I mean, ok, that’s the main theme of the movie, revenant, a “revived corpse who haunts the living”, I get it, but still ... 

Watching it once was more than enough for me.
