Glee season 1

First of all, I didn’t like it much, it’s not unbearable, it has lots of music, but the characters are terrible. I had heard it was a prime example of inclusion, of acceptance, of celebrating the freedom to be who you really are and stuff like that, I expecting nice characters and stories of friendship or something like that, but I saw a bunch of people who want to shine above all else, who thinks about blackmailing other people as if it’s nothing out of the ordinary (really, in this show they sing and they blackmail), of people lying to each other, keeping big secrets… the only inclusive thing was that there was a gay character, but even that is not treated the right way. I thought it was for a second, but then he starts denying it - at first I thought it was a known fact, what with him talking about his tiara and everything, but then he starts denying it and all. The good thing of the show is that the father knew - of course - and accepts his son. That’s good.

As a bunch of characters though, it’s not really a positive environment, with all the bullying and lying and cheating going on, I didn’t like it.

The best character was Kurt’s father Burt.

1 - The chorus

Will Schuester is not happy that the Glee club was closed because of lack of funds, and also because the man in charge of it was fired after a girl (I think it was Rachel) reported to have seen him caress a boy’s chest.

So, Will wants to take care of it. He uses 60$ a month of his own money. He teaches Spanish.

Sue is the cheerleaders coach, and takes it very seriously, she raises champions. She firmly agrees with school hierarchy that sees jocks and popular kids on top, nerd and invisibles on the bottom.  Sue starts like this and keeps like this to the end, she may not be evil but she’s truly unpleasant.

Because of that, no jock even listens, they don’t want to join the club because only losers join the Glee club. Schue hears Finn sing and wants him in the club so he does a bad thing, accusing him of having marijuana to blackmail him into joining the club… it starts like this and keeps like this, see what I mean?

Schue married his girl from school, Terri, and she complains a lot. She wants him to change job and make more money because she buys a lot from Pottery Barn. Then she tells him that she’s pregnant, so he gives up teaching.

Finn quits but is tired of being on the side of the bullies, so he comes back and helps, gives directions.

Emma is the school counsellor, a girl with OCD that’s in love with Will. She talks to him and convinces him to stay because he really loves it.

2 - Showmance

Terri wants to buy a new, big house. Sue resents the club and is antagonising. Terri is very upset because of their lack of money, so Will takes up the janitor job at half salary at nights.

Finn’s girl is part of the celibacy club.

To recruit more people, Schue wants them to do his old song Freak Out, but they’re terrible at it, so Rachel changes it and they do a provoking act.

Sue demands his resignation, but the principal liked them. Still, parents complained, so he has made a list of church-approved songs.

Coach Ken still pursues Emma, and he’s not wrong, she should not chase a married guy.

Finn kisses Rachel then runs away.

Terri’s doctor tells her that she’s not pregnant, she only thought she was.

Finn’s girl Quinn and two more cheerleaders (Brittany and Santana) join the club and Sue wants them to spy for her.

Terry tells Will she’s having a boy, but also that he should stop as a janitor and give up the new house, she doesn’t want it.

Quinn is actually good and Schue wants to give her the solo part that was Rachel’s. These girls convince her they need a new coreographer - which is true.

There’s a guy who cut both his thumbs… what was up with that story? Well, Will starts singing at home with three other guys, they are called ‘Acafellas’ and he likes being in a boy-band (sort of), he likes it so much he has little time for the club.

Terri tries really hard to get pregnant.

3 - Acafellas

They want to hire Dakota Stanley, everybody but Finn.

Quinn thinks Dakota is so strict they will all quit. Dakota wants 8000$ and is really horrible, but Rachel stops everyone from quitting and fires Dakota instead.

The Acafellas (Will, Ken, Henri and Howard) sing in public and are liked. Howard quits and Henri needs rehab, so they are joined by Finn and the other jock. Sandy, the guy who was in charge of the club before. Josh Groban shows up to give Sandy a restraining order.

Mercedes likes to hang out with Kurt but the other girls all think he’s gay. Of course, how can she not see that. When Kurt does not want to be her boyfriend, she even thinks that he’s in love with Rachel (really girl???). Eventually he tells her he’s gay. He likes Finn.

Also, Kurt told his girl friends that his father found his tiara.

Sue is unhappy that the club is now going strong, and Quinn says to her: “when you really believe in yourself, you don’t have to bring other people down”.

The best line in all the show, if only people would listen, even in real life :/

4 - Preggers

Kurt is practising dancing and singing at home with Brittany and Tina when his dad walks in so he pretends he’s exercising and in the football team, and dad wants tickets now. He asks Finn for help and tries out for the role of kicker, with MUSIC, but he kicks great and the coach takes him in. The first football game, Kurt’s dad is there. They start terrible, then they start dancing, confusing the others, I guess, since nobody even touched the ball for the whole song. After that, they’re better and do it, score, and it’s Kurt’s time to kick and he does it, and dad cheers.

His dad is proud of him and Kurt finally tells him that he’s gay, but of course his dad knew it already, and he says he still loves him, of course. If it was love before, it does not go away.

Terri confesses to Kendra and wants to tell Will too, but is afraid of losing him.

Sue has her own segment on the local news - she speaks of being strict and using a cane works for teaching cheerleaders. To keep her segment, Sue needs her team to keep winning. She goes to Sandy and then blackmails Figgins into giving him a position in charge of all arts.

Quinn tells Finn she thinks she’s pregnant even though they never had sex (accuses Finn of making her pregnant because he came in the bathtub they shared…). Finn goes crying to Will, scared of becoming a parent and being trapped here, so he wants him to help him with the football, teaching the guys to dance to make them better.

Terri starts thinking of taking Quinn’s baby. Finn also tells his best friend Noah, called Puck, and we learn that he got Quinn drunk one night; she was down and they had sex, and he’s the father.

Rachel is angry that Will gave her solo act to Tina instead of her (obviously because she’s the only star, God’s gift to all hearing people, all everyone else should just stay back), and Sue wants to steal her away with a school musical. She quits the club because Tina has the lead role, and goes exclusively to the musical.

5 - The rhodes not taken

The club wants Rachel back :/ Finn takes her bowling in the hope of getting her back in the club. She kisses him and agrees to go back to the club to have Finn, but as she goes back she learns Quinn’s pregnant and realises Finn played her and goes away again.

Will finds April, in the club some 15 years before, who dropped out of school but did not make it at Broadway, and Will calls her back to the club, since she never graduated. The kids don’t like her, so she wins them over with every ruse she can use, like giving Kurt alcohol.

While they’re all bowling, they sing together after she promises, again, to quit drinking. At their first performance, April shows up drunk. She sings well and gets her standing ovation and then agrees with Will this is not her place anymore, and Rachel steps in for the second act.

She quit the musical again because she missed the club.

6 - Vitamin D

The club kids think they’ll have it easy for now because they’re against a school of deaf kids and one of criminals. To practise, Will has them compete boys vs girls.

Sue says kids need to be terrified to really work for it. To destroy the club, she wants to destroy Will, so she talks to Terri about Will and Emma, installing doubts in her, and suggests she works as school nurse to see for herself (she’s not a nurse, but that’s not important to get the job, apparently). Will and Emma are not happy.

Finn is dead tired all the time, so Terri gives him pills, and he gives them to the other boys. Their mash-up number is great and the girls didn’t even practise. Kurt tells the girls about the pills. Rachel yells at Finn first, but then she takes them too when Terri gives them to all the girls. Terri also encourages Ken to propose to Emma.

The girls also do a great number. Quinn tells Terri she’ll give her the baby, but when she asks for money for bills and clothes Terri says no (!!!).

Enna accepts to marry Ken, but only so not to be alone, she wants to keep it a secret and live separately. He loves her so much he’s ok with it.

Will is very angry when he learns about the pills. Terri has to resign, and Will is in trouble too because he didn’t notice and obsessed them with winning, so they’ll have Sue to co-run the club now.

7 - Throwdown

The three cheerleader in the club still aid their coach. Sue and Will battle at the club and she choosess all the ‘minority’ kids, although she calls them stuff like ‘wheels, gay kid, Asian, other Asian, Aretha and Shaft’. In retaliation, Will fails her kids at Spanish so they can’t train (another example of bad adulting. to be fair, they got free-passes before, but that was not ok either).

Sue and Will yell into each other’s faces so the kids storm out. Sue steps down from the club; still, she has the creepy guy Jacob publish the story on Quinn being pregnant.

Quinn is upset at how close Finn is to Rachel.

Will wants to go to the doctor with Terri, so Kendra blackmails Dr Wu into helping her.

8 - Mash-up

Puck and Rachel make out, but then she pulls back because she keeps imagining Finn. She tells Puck he needs to have the guts to sing solo and he does, so they’re together, but Ken makes the boys choose between the club and football… and Noah chooses the club, with Mike and their friend.

The local news celebrity takes Sue out and she learns to dance from Will for him. When Sue sees Rod with Andrea, the news woman, she leaves and is bitterer than ever.

Ken talks about Emma with Will, upset of being only a second choice. He knows Emma wants Will and is only settling for him.

Rachel talks to Noah. He knows she likes Finn, and she knows he likes Quinn. Finn talks to Ken and Ken stops his extra practises so they don’t have to choose anymore.

Sue also throws Quinn off her team because of her pregnancy.

9 - Wheels

Quinn wants Finn to find a job to pay for her doctor’s bills, and the school has no money to pay for a bus for the club so Artie can’t go with them because of his wheelchair.

Will has given the ‘wicked’ solo to Rachel, of course. Kurt wants to audition, Will doesn’t let him (is it a female role? I don’t know it)

Will has them all spend three hours every day in a wheelchair to learn how it feels, and also a bake sale.

When Kurt’s dad sees his son so down because he can’t sing that song “traditionally sung by a girl”, he yells at principal Figgins about discriminations, so Finn lets him audition. Rachel is upset of course, she speaks of him always “ruining her life”. She thinks she’ll lose only because they don’t like her (which is very offensive to Kurt)

Figgins wants Sue to have open auditins to fill Quinn’s place, but none of them is cheerleader material, until the last one, Becky, gets the role. A girl with Down syndrome, because Sue has a sister with handicap and she loves her.

Noah put some pot in the cupcakes they have to sell and so they are sold like crazy. Then he wants to give that money to Quinn, but she refuses. Finn got a job with Rachel’s help (meaning she lied, pretending he’s really in a wheelchair).

Tina kisses Artie, but then she confesses she faked the stutter, because too shy to make speeches, and it sort of pushed people away, so they left her alone, or something, and he leaves her very upset about it. What’s the big deal? Ok, he can’t fake not-walking, but did he only like her for her stutter making them similar and nothing else???

Kurt blew up the audition, wanting to lose because of how it would impact on his dad’s life - he got a phone call about his son being gay (although these kind of people are not usually smart enough to use the right words so they use small simple words they can master…).

Artie says to use the money for ramps for the school.

10 - Ballads

Will pairs them up to sing ballads to each other, picking names out of a hat: Noah/Mercedes, Artie/Quinn, Finn/Kurt. The two cheerleader are together, so Rachel is with Will because Matt is not there. Singing together, she finds him cute. Now she brings him a gift and Will is worried about hurting her. Will sings words that should ‘let her down gently’, but of course she didn’t get it.

She even shows up at his home and Terri makes her clean the bathroom before he drives her home. Suzy Pepper, who was once obsessed with Will as well, now warns Rachel about it and she understands.

Finn keeps thinking about his ‘little girl’ that Quinn wants to give up for adoption. He sings “you’re having my baby” at the dinner at Quinn’s parents’ house. They’re upset and mom didn’t believe him about not having sex. Obviously, since there’s a pregnancy going on. They throw them out so Finn takes her to his own place.

Stressed out, Puck yells at Mercedes that he’s the baby’s father, and she tells him to back off.

The club together sing to Finn and Quinn that they’ll always support them both.

11 - Hairography

Will thinks Sue is leaking info on his songs and dances so he goes to the jail school and ends up inviting them to use their auditorium since they don’t have one, and he thinks they’re good.

Quinn thinks of giving Puck another chance, and using Rachel to distract him. She tells Kendra and Terri that she wants to keep the baby.

Quinn thought Puck really wanted a family, but he was sexting Santana, so she says again she’ll give the baby to Terri because Will will be a good father.

Rachel asks Kurt to give her a makeover but he’s jealous that she’s in love with Finn.

Finn tells her he doesn’t like her new look, as he told Kurt before.

Will keeps fighting with Sue.

The club performs in front of the deaf kids with a terrible number of wings, shaking their new wigs wildly, while the other kids sing Imagine and the club joins in, and I didn’t like that, it was not their performance anymore…

Will knows he was wrong and changes songs, again, and gives Sue the ultimate song list, and now she does go to the other schools to hand it over so if they use some of those it might look like Will stole their songs.

12 - Mattress

Will personally pays 325$ to get the club a photo in the yearbook, but they don’t want it because they always get vandalised, so Rachel takes it alone, and she gets them all a part in a mattress commercial. Sue finds out about it and it appears it was forbidden so the club seems to be over, but then Quinn blackmails Sue into giving them a whole page in the yearbook.

Will finds Terri’s fake pregnant-belly and finds out the truth. Terri tells him about Quinn’s baby idea, and Will leaves.

Will is the only one disqualified from the club, he takes it because he slept in one of the mattresses given to them so they can’t be given back.

13 - Sectionals

Puck ran to Quinn’s aid when she fell and Rachel suspects something. All the others know but didn’t tell her, sure she’d tell Finn.

Emma offers to take the kids to Sectionals.

Rachel wants to find out if Puck is the father, and she tells Finn, who goes to punch Puck and scream and then he leaves, out of his mind.

Quinn is not mad at Rachel, but Finn does not go with them on the bus to Sectionals. Once there, the other two schools DID all their songs (Sue convinced them it was the right thing to do for the kids) so Emma calls Will then has words with the other school adults.

Will sent Finn to them to help.

Ken was really hurt that Emma moved the wedding for the Sectionals so he left her and she’s alone when Will gets to her ‘wedding’, and she tells him that Ken was right, and so she already emailed her resignation because she’s ashamed of her story with Ken and heartbroken about Will.

He says that he loves his wife, but that he still just left her, Just so Emma goes.

The directors of the other two schools felt bad and come clean with Figgins, so he tells Sue that she’s suspended and no longer the coach. Will is reinstated though.

The Glee club won.

Will stops Emma from leaving and kisses her.

14 - Hell-o

Sue is reinstated and Rachel talks dates with Finn? When did that happen?

Finn is depressed, playing basket and pretending to listen to Rachel’s incessant story.

Sue drugged Figgins then she blackmailed him, to get reinstated and angrier than before against Will and the club.

Will dates Emma but then she realises he is not ready and needs to find himself first.

Sue tells Santana and Brittany to seduce Finn to break Rachel. They ask him out, together, and he breaks up with her even before going on the date.

Rachel meets Jessie of Vocal Adrenaline, champions at the Regionals. They sing together in the library.

Finn’s date is embarrassing and he says nothing. He goes back to Rachel but she tells him she’s with Jessie now, she moved on. Will makes out with their coach. The club tells Rachel she must leave Jessie or she’s out, but he tells her he’s crazy about her. He is only playing her though.

Rachel lies, telling Finn and the club that she ended it when she didn’t, but she also tells Finn that she can’t be with him

15 - The power of Madonna

Sue wants to pay tribute to her idol Madonna so her music is all over the school, very loud, and she uses it for her team, and that’s where Will gets inspired to use it for the club too.

Will learns how boys always act making girls’ lives difficult.

Jessie tells Rachel he respects her and she deserves a lot and he’s willing to wait… which is the same old speech that boys use to trick girls, so I was not surprised when she melted and said she was ready.

Santana offers Finn to have sex with him to lose his virginity, and he eventually agrees. Emma also wants to do it with Will. At the end Rachel doesn’t do it, but tells Finn it went great. He did do it, but he felt nothing so he tells Rachel he didn’t. Emma ran out barefoot :p

Kurt and Mercedes offered to give Sue a new look but then she just chose to be herself. The two of them are now part of the Cheerios.

Jessie joined Rachel’s school “to be with her” and Will accepted him into Glee club.

16 - Home

Sue tells Mercedes she has to lose ten pounds, obviously cheerleaders are skinny. Mercedes faints after she stops eating, and Quinn is the one to make her feel better about herself. At the Cheerio show with a reporter in the crowd, Mercedes takes the mic and speaks about feeling good about yourself and sings it and the reporter is impressed, thinks that was Sue’s idea and calls her a visionary.

Finn’s mother is now dating Kurt’s father and he doesn’t like it. Kurt sort of brought them together himself. He gets jealous though when his father seems to bond with Finn over “guy talk” about football. Kurt and Finn agree to break the parents up, the selfish prats.

Burt, Kurt’s dad, makes the best speech of the show to Finn and now Finn tries to accept him.

Will meets April again and she wants to rent his apartment, but he’s not comfortable with that.

She gets lots of money from a widow, to shut up about her affair with her husband; she buys the club the auditorium and plans to go to Broadway.

17 - Bad reputation

The club uploads Sue’s video of her sort of working out. There’s also a list, the Glist, about the club’s kids’ popularity based on what they do, or something, and the principal and Sue want someone expelled.

Will sings and dances to Ice Ice Baby.

Rachel is last on the Glist, while some like Kurt, Tina and Mercedes aren’t even in it, and they all want to do something big or outrageous to go up on that list.

Sue doesn’t like to be laughed at, and her sister suggests volunteering to help because there’s always someone who’s got it worse, so she talks with Emma and tells her to stand up for herself and let Will know how he made her feel… so she enters the teachers lounge and starts ranting at him in front of everyone, even calls him a slut.

Kurt and his group with Brittany dance at the library while Artie sings “you can’t touch this”, but the lady there liked them.

Sue’s video has more than three million views. Kurt confesses to her to have uploaded the video, but she is not angry because Olivia Newton John herself called her to make a new video of Physical together.

Rachel convinces Puck to do a video together for their “songs with bad reputations” project, and also Finn… and also Jessie, but the guys didn’t know about the others and are all angry. Jessie is so angry they break up.

Will knows Quinn made the list but won’t rat her out to be expelled.

18 - Laryngitis

Noah has his head shaved by a dermathologist and for whatever reason he’s a loser now… mah.

Since now Mercedes is going good, he thinks dating a cheerleader would be good for being popular again, but she doesn’t like him.

Rachel points out to Will that she’s the only one practising, the others don’t see the point.

Rachel has tonsillitis and can’t sing. Kurt is still jealous about Finn and his dad.

Rachel keeps whining about her missing voice, so much so that Finn takes her to meet a friend, Sean, who got paralysed playing football. :/ The message was that he found other things he’s good at, like Maths…

Mercedes quits the Cheerios.

Kurt is really jealous of his dad and Finn hanging out together. Finally they talk about it - good dad.

Rachel goes back to sing with Sean, her voice is already back.

19 - Dream on

Bryan Ryan, a new member of the school board. He talks about having to cut the Glee Club. He’s bitter and wants to “spare them” the disappointment.

Noah keeps trying to win Mercedes over, he even sings R&B, “The lady is a tramp”.

Quinn now lives with Noah and his mom.

Kurt changes to more the son his father wants and be all tough… so Brittany offers to make out and he agrees, at his place, where his dad finds them…

Mercedes and Santana sing/fight about Puck, but she doesn’t like it how he is back to being a bully.

Jessie is back from his “spring break” and they’re together now.

Rachel starts researching who her mother might be, since she has two dads, and Jessie encourages her.

Bryan cries to Will about missing performing, so they sing together at the pub.

Artie’s dream was to be a dancer. Tina wanted to cheer him up making him tap-dance on his chair, but when he falls down he sends her out, but they make peace later, she simply wanted him to keep the dream. Emma sort of shoots down Artie’s dream of walking again.

Will and Bryan audition together Les Miserables. Sue thought he would end the club, now he starts questioning her costs.

Bryan is all enthusiastic until Sue tells him Will got the role, but then Will gives him the role to save the club.

As expected, Jessie’s coach told him to “befriend” Rachel and to give her a tape, but it turns out this Shelby is her mother and by the contract she signed she can’t contact Rachel until she’s 18. She had Jessie give Rachel a music tape, and he plays it for her. A beautiful rendition of “I dreamed a dream”

20 - Theatricality

Tina is in trouble with Figgins because of her Goth style, against his christian beliefs, but then she will threaten him with unleashing her “king of Asian vampires” father on him and now she’s allowed to wear her clothes again.

Burt asked Carole to move in with him, which means Finn will share with Kurt.

Rachel sneaks in to spy on Vocal Adrenaline and she hears Shelby singing. So she goes to her saying “I’m your daughter” and they talk.

(There’s that couple of jocks that are really criminal bullies)

The girls and Kurt perform Bad Romance dressed in various Gaga style - Rachel asked mom’s help with the dress. The boys perform the Kiss.

Finn is not comfortable sharing a room with Kurt. Finn yells at him that he’s not like him, that he sees how Kurt looks at him, and that he can’t live like that, with all that ‘faggy’ stuff around, but Kurt’s dad hears that word and is very angry at him and doesn’t want him around, cause family comes first.

Noah and Quinn agree on the name Beth.

Rachel and Shelby sing Poker Face together as goodbye. Shelby can’t have any more children.

To make peace with Kurt, Finn wears a big red Gaga costume to defend him from the bully jocks.

21 - Funk

Jessie has gone back to Vocal Adrenaline. Rachel is heartbroken.

Will and Terri’s divorce has been signed.

Sue can’t wait to get the club’s room for herself after they lose at Regionals. Will sings and dances for her as an attempt to flirt with her and get her off his back…basically he sings and wriggles his butt at her. Then he brings her flowers and also some strange thing that appeals to her, and asks her out… and then he stood her up, and then told her he did it on purpose to show her how cruelty feels.

She doesn’t show up for days and “her” girls feel lost and risk losing their scholarship if they don’t win at Regionals come Saturday. Will goes to Sue’s house, so full of trophies, to get her out of there.

Mercedes invites Quinn to come live with her so she won’t have to deal with Noah’s mom.

Jessie lures Rachel out so he and his team can throw eggs at her.

Sue won again, sixth National and she had Kurt do a long Celine Dion medley.

The club shows a funk number at Vocal Adrenaline because they can’t do funk numbers because they are soul-less…

22 - Journey to Regionals

Sue will be one of the judges at Regionals. The kids are depressed.

Josh Groban and Olivia Newton-John are also judges.

They do their best, and Finn tells Rachel he loves her. Quinn’s mom comes to watch and tells her she wants her home now that she kicked out her husband after he cheated, but then they all have to rush Quinn to the hospital to have her baby.

Well, Rachel apparently stayed back to watch Vocal Adrenaline perform.

Rachel asks her mother to come teach the Glee Club with Will but she says no.

The judges turn on Sue saying she’s not a celebrity, she’s a nobody, a failure like the Glee kids… so in second place is Aural Intensity who had used the judges’ songs. In first place Vocal Adrenaline. They didn’t place. She shouted at Figging for shutting the club. We see that Sue voted for New Directions, and she forces Figgins to give the Glee club another year.

Emma says she’s going out with Carl, her dentist. Will tells her he loves her.

Shelby adopts Beth, Quinn’s baby.
