This is the eighth movie. Not a fav one. The story is not great, the absurdities to overlook are so many one can’t even start, it’s a bit of a mess. This one, on a list, would be I think with 2Fast2Furious.
Lots and lots of car chases, in this one.
It starts in Havana, where Dom wins a race in a burning old car going backwards, then gifts his shiny car to his cousin (he’s made of money?). A blond blackmails Dom into working for her betraying his team.
The funniest scene of the movie, Hobbs coaching his daughter ‘s soccer team with big speeches and a haka, and watching the game supporting the Red Dragons! But there’s something to get in Berlin, a super important operation that they warn him, will mean his imprisonment if he fails, but he’s confident because he’s got his own team. He calls Dom and the team, and they get the EMP alright, but then Dom betrays them and takes it. Hobbs is put in the same prison as Shaw.
Mr Nobody has an assistant that doesn’t know them well, doesn’t yet know how to treat him. They’ll call him Little Nobody :p . Anyway.
Mr Nobody wants to get him out, but Hobbs doesn’t want his help, not really sure why, so Mr Nobody takes the initiative, and somehow opens Hobbs cell. He doesn’t want to go out like that, but when Shaw takes advantage of the situation and manages to open all the cells, and gets out, Hobbs does too, trying to stop him. So Nobody takes them both out. Nobody tells the team: Letty, Tej, Roman, and Ramsey, plus Hobbs and Shaw, about cyber terrorist Cipher, the blonde. Shaw hates her because she did a number on his brother too.
They look for Dom with God’s Eye from the last movie, and Dom and Cipher are right there in that building. They take the program and Cipher kisses Dom because Letty’s looking. And on Cipher’s plane we finally see Dom’s reason. When he thought Letty was dead, he had a story with Elena, and they had a son. He didn’t know about it, but now Cipher has them both, mother and son, cute little baby boy.
Without God’s Eye it’s not Ramsey or Tej that finds them, it’s Shaw. Somehow. Everyone to New York. Who knows how he managed it since Cipher controlled him, but Dom arranged a meeting with someone, and now we see him talk with a woman that we’ll learn later is Mrs Shaw. They plan something but don’t want to spoil our surprise so we don’t hear them.
Cipher’s target here is the Russian Minister of Defence. Cipher hacks all the cars around and has them all move on auto-pilot, and has the cars in the parking lot above go out the window, so it was raining cars that day. The minister’s car is trapped, so Dom takes a case with Nuclear codes and then he’s chased by his own team. They use harpoons and get his car from all sides, and still he frees himself and runs. Shaw runs after him and Dom shoots him. Letty takes the case: he doesn’t shoot her and doesn’t let Cipher’s man shoot her, but he takes the codes back.
Cipher does not like this, and as punishment she kills Elena. (Well, of course, it fits with their happy ending, so at the end Dom and Letty will have the baby and be a normal family without a second woman *rollingeyes*)
They go to some icy place, Cipher takes control of a Russian submarine but simehow Little Nobody stops the missile launch. Cipher orders her men to kill the team (why wait so long?because it’s the usual stupid thing that always happen to allow the hero the time to win, but it doesn’t matter, this one is not just a F&F movie, is one of the lower movies, so can’t expect much). Did you know the door of a Lamborghini can protect against any onslaught of bullets? Anyway.
Of course Shaw isn’t dead, it was part of Dom and Mrs Shaw’s plan to stop Cipher. Deckard and Owen Shaw will infiltrate Cipher’s plane (nobody knows how they did that) and rescue the little guy. When finally Shaw tells Dom that he’s got the baby, Dom is free to help his team. Well, Shaw was still on board at that moment, so yes he had the baby, but it was not yet safe… Anyway, Shaw fights all the men on the plane while carrying the baby, no help from his brother, but we don’t see that Owen went towards the cabin to the pilots to make them land the plane.
Dom’s car can even outrun missiles, and then Dom has it hit the submarine; his team surrounds him with their vehicles tomcover him from the fire from the submarine exploding. His car looks finally dead.
When Shaw reaches Cipher he still has the baby, but she parachutes out. They won. Didn’t get Cipher, but they won.
Mr Nobody gives Hobbs hos job back if he wants it, but after 16 years he wants to stop - retire already, so young? He wants to stay more with his daughter. Shaw arrives bringing the baby, and now that they blew things up together Dom shakes his hand, and the fact that Shaw killed Han is forgotten apparently. I mean, Owen is up and about, but Han is dead…
Dom calls the baby Brian, of course.
Cipher was Charleze Theron, and Mrs Shaw was Helen Mirren, great as always. Little Nobody was Little Eastwood :lol: Scott.
