This show was really funny, of course, it was lovely and entertaining. It’s not one of those that care about details and plot-holes, it’s really more about the good feeling and the comedy.
Of course none of this could ever be possible in real life, because here nobody ever cares about money (they did a bit about it once in an ep, but it was really nothing). In real life, if someone came back into your life after years and simply installed herself into your apartment, would you be happy? And many more things like that. It’s really a ‘anything-for-friendship’ show.
Phoebe is adorable from the first episode, I really liked her, and also Chandler and Monica. Rachel was okay too, after the first episodes where she was so spoiled. I never really loved Joey and Ross though.

1 - The one where Monica gets a roommate
They seem to spend really a lot of time at that bar :p they talk about Monica’s not-a-date, about Chandler’s weird dreams, then Ross arrives, all down because Carol just moved out. He didn’t know she was a lesbian until she found out and left him. He didn’t want the divorce, “I just want to be married again”, he says, and Rachel walks in in a wedding dress. :p
She left Barry right before the wedding and came looking for Monica because apparently she’s the only one she knows who lives in the city, even though they drifted apart and Monica wasn’t invited to the wedding…
They all go to Monica’s apartment and Rachel phones her dad to explain, and then she says “maybe I’ll just stay here with Monica” so that’s how they decide she’ll stay and live there…
Monica goes out with Paul ‘the wine guy’ while the boys go to Ross’s room to put together his new furniture. Phoebe: “I wish I could but I don’t want to”
So, three grown men have real trouble putting together bookshelves and stuff… *rollingeyes come on, I always put together my Ikea stuff by myself just fine, when I had help it was just a piece of cake!
Paul tells Monica of his divorce and that he hasn’t been with a woman since, so they sleep together on their first date! She’s all dreamy but then she learns he said the same things to her coworker (that we know of, maybe more), and she’s shocked that it was just a line. Joey is not.
Rachel has never worked before in her life, and is used to live off her dad’s credit cards. She goes out looking for a job, but she comes back with new boots. The friends make her cut all her credit cards with scissors.
Phoebe tells a bit about her too: “It’s hard to be on your own for the first time. I remember when I first came to this city, I was 14, my mom had just killed herself and my stepdad was back in prison and I got here and didn’t know anybody and I ended up living with this albino guy who was like cleaning windshields outside port authority and then he killed himself and then I found aroma therapy. So believe me I know exactly how you feel.”
Ross tells Rachel that he had a crush on her in high school, but she knew that already, and then he asks if it might be okay if he asked her out someday, she says yeah and he’s like “okay maybe I will”… He doesn’t do it now but goes out feeling a little better about starting a new life.
Rachel starts working at the Central Perk as a waitress.
2 - The one with the sonogram at the end
Carol comes to meet Ross at work at the museum to tell him she’s pregnant.
Their parents come to visit, and they keep pestering poor Monica while they always praise Ross, this mother is unbearable, and when Ross tells them that Carol now lives with Susan and together they will raise his child, they turn to Monica again, poor girl.
We learn that Phoebe has a twin, but “we don’t speak, she’s this high-powered, driven, career type”, she’s a waitress somewhere.
Ross starts pining after Rachel already.
Rachel goes to give the ring back to Barry and finds out he went on the honeymoon with the maid of honor Mindy and they’re together and happy now.
Ross goes to the doctor appointment with Carol and start fighting with Susan about names, then he hears the child’s heartbeat and is hooked.
3 - The one with the thumb
Chandler helps Joey prepare for a role and shows it how to smoke a cigarette, and gets hooked again. He quit three years ago and now all their friends are angry at him.
Monica has a new date but doesn’t want her friends to meet him. They insist so she introduces them. It turns out they all love this Alan. A phone call from him is enough to make Chandler stop smoking again. They all love him, but Monica is not really into him and wants to break up. They take it badly, but Alan is a little relieved because he couldn’t stand them…
Rachel found 500$ more in her bank account, she told the bank and they gave her 500$ more and a football phone… so different from my bank :/ So, she gives the 1000 and the phone to a homeless woman she knows. The woman buys her a soda to make even, and Phoebe finds a thumb in there, and gets 7000$ for it… so at the end of the ep she gives them to Chandler if he promises never to smoke again (he was gonna start again now there was no more Alan)
4 - The one with George Stephanopoulos
Rachel is disappointed with her first paycheck, she hoped for more because of course she never worked before, then three of her old friends come to visit at the bar and they shriek a lot, all spoiled women like she was (…) and she gets depressed about her life now, and then she depresses Monica and Phoebe too. Then they spy on a guy in the building across the street and share secrets and then they feel better.
Ross is depressed because it’s the anniversary of the first time he had sex with Carol (they were together for seven years)… the boys take him to a hockey match until he catches the puck in his face. She’s the only woman he’s ever been with.

5 - The one with the East German laundry detergent
Rachel’s father promised her a new Mercedes if she moves back home.
Chandler has to break up with Janice and Phoebe with Tony. She does it quite simply, but he finds it much harder. Eventually Phoebe is the one to help him out because he was having too much trouble.
Joey sees the girl she broke up with, Angela, looking hot in a red dress so he wants her back, but she’s with a Bob now, so he sets a double date with Monica wanting to set her up with Bob. It leads so some awkward moments between the two women, until finally Monica understands and they team up to break them apart. They succeed.
Ross has a laundry-date with Rachel, now she’s alone because Monica is out with Joey. She has never done laundry before. He helps her explaining how it is done, but she leaves a red sock in with her whites… but at the end it goes well enough that she gives him a kiss.
(sigh… if only it was like this, in real life if you’re not careful with your laundry you get stuff with really bad stains, nothing like that lovely pink, unfortunately)
6 - The one with the butt
They all go watch Joey act (and sing) in a play, it’s Rachel’s first time but I doubt she’ll forget such a torture easily. Chandler spots a beautiful woman and they convince him to go talk to her. She’s Italian, Aurora, and she says yes. They go on a date and it turns out she already has a husband and a boyfriend, so she says their relationship would have to be only sexual… so he accepts.
It goes great for a while, but he likes her a lot, and when another man named Andrew appears in the picture, they break up.
An agency woman, Estelle, left her card for Joey. She finds him a job in the new Al Pacino movie as his butt double. And yet, he manages to ruin it and he gets fired.
Rachel cleans the apartment and moves the green ottoman, but Monica puts it back. They mock her on how a neat-freak she is. (Phoebe lived with her once)
7 - The one with the blackout
Phoebe (Buffay) sings at the Central Perk but there’s a blackout so she can’t.
Chandler is “trapped in a ATM vestibule with Jill Goodacre. For a long while he says nothing, until he almost chokes on a chewing-gum and she saves him, so they start talking.
The others are all together in the girls’ apartment. They talk and Phoebe sings and Joey warns Ross is close to getting trapped in the friends zone, so he tries to ask Rachel out now. Then a stray cat jumps on him. Rachel and Phoebe try to find the owner, and Rachel finds him, Paolo, the sexy Italian. He only speaks Italian. Ross tries to tell him to back off, but when the lights are back on, Rachel and Paolo are kissing.
8 - The one where nana dies twice
One of Chandler’s coworker wants to set him up on a blind date, only she was thinking of a man because she thought he was gay. He is surprised to learn that all three of the girls thought he was too when they first met him.
Ross and Monica’s grandma dies. When they go out for the funeral, Chandler says “well, don’t we look nice all dressed up” and suddenly he realises why everybody thought he was gay.
Monica’s mom says “do you know what it’s like to grow up with someone who is critical of every single thing you say?” but in the end it looks like she actually got the message that she does the same…
9 - The one where underdog gets away
A man named Terry is Rachel’s boss at the Central Perk.
She wanted an advance on her paycheck, but she’s a terrible waitress and doesn’t get it. She wanted to pay herself for her ticket to go skiing with her family for Thanksgiving, so the guys give her the money. Monica’s parents go away this year, so she cooks dinner to soothe Ross’ disappointment. Chandler doesn’t celebrate it, because when he was 9, his parents told him they were getting a divorce on Thanksgiving.
Joey’s face is on the new poster saying he’s got VD (whatever that is), his family believes it too so he’ll be staying with the guys.
Ross is upset because apparently Susan talks to the baby (still in the belly) all the time so he wants to do it too.
The flying balloon underdog gets loose over the city so they go to the roof to watch it, but nobody grabs the keys so they get stuck outside until Joey can find the spare key they keep in their place, and then the dinner is ruined and Rachel has missed the plane. They all argue (and let’s face it, they were all taking advantage of Monica as it often is) but in the end they all stay together and eat sandwiches together and Chandler is there too and quite happy not to be alone.
(Funny, they always go back and forth, I’ve never seen anyone use the keys before…)
10 - The one with the monkey
Ross comes home with a monkey on his shoulder, Marcel, that his friend Bethel rescued.
They make a pact to have no dates for new year, since they are all single (Paolo will be in Rome).
Phoebe sings at the bar and it’s all songs on her dead mother and everyone’s desperate, but then she stops singing because two guys are talking loud, and after she insists one of them says they were discussing her and Daryl Hannah, who’s more beautiful, and the guy with glasses says that Phoebe is, that she is “luminous with a kind of delicate grace”, so she stops singing and goes to talk to him. He’s David, and they start dating, and she likes him a lot, he’s a scientist.
She wants to invite him to New Year’s, after all Chandler already invited Janice. Then Monica asks her ex-boyfriend fun-Bobby and Paolo comes back early and Joey also got a date, with a hot mum he met while playing Santa’s elf, and she comes to the party with her two kids.
David wins a grant and is supposed to go to Minsk, but doesn’t know what to do, he doesn’t want to leave Phoebe.
Rachel gets tackled by a woman over a taxi and half her face is purple, and Paolo missed his flight so is not coming, and fun-Bobby is all sad because his grandpa (I think) died, and Chandler can’t stand the whole night with Janice so breaks up again before it’s even midnight, and Joey’s date actually hits the bedroom with David’s colleague Max, so at midnight they are all actually alone as if they had stuck by the pact. Chandler wants too much someone to kiss at midnight, so Joey give him a quick kiss.
Ross is jealous because he doesn’t think it’s working out with Marcel.
11 - The one with Mrs Bing
While out, Monica and Phoebe see a hot guy and Monica Whoo-hoo him while he’s crossing a road and he gets it by an ambulance. They spend a lot of time with him at the hospital while he’s unconscious. At first they are together, then they start getting there alone without the other and get jealous. Until he wakes up and simply says thanks, see you around ( I mean, he has no idea who they are, they are being crazy).
Nora Tyler Bing is on tv because her new book is out, she writes sort of erotic romantic novels. Paolo is back and he knows her too :p She’s coming back to New York and they all meet her to eat together at some place (Paolo too, so Ross starts drinking until he’s totally drunk).
They are all happy, Chandler is just embarrassed. Well, Ross is sad because of Paolo and she comforts him and eventually she kisses him and Joey sees them.
(We learn that Joey’s mom is called Gloria Tribbiani and he has six siblings). Joey is angry about that, (no kissing your friend’s mom is a code rule…) so Ross tells him. Chandler is very upset, Ross knows how complicated has always been his relationship with his mom. Anyway, after Ross encourages to tell all his feelings to his mom, he actually does it and apparently they talk a lot, lots of stuff off his chest I guess.
Rachel tries writing and shows them all her first chapter, but they concentrate on all the typing mistakes and she gets upset.
12 - The one with the dozen lasagnas
Carol knows the sex of the baby but Ross doesn’t want to know, but Susan does.
Joey and Chandler should get a new table, but end up with a soccer-table.
Paolo goes to Phoebe to get a massage, but then he starts touching her, so the guys tells her she must tell Rachel that he made a move on her. She does, and Rachel is heartbroken. Ross tries to swoop in, but it doesn’t go too well. Accidentally, Rachel lets it slip that the baby will be a boy.
13 - The one with the boobies
The boys always come and go as they please from Monica’s apartment, so Chandler happens to see Rachel’s boobs. She tries to catch Chandler in the shower instead she sees Joey. Joey tries to see her and sees Monica. Monica tries to see Joey but sees Joey senior instead.
Phoebe’s new guy Roger is a shrink. He basically starts analysing them all. They all hate him and they tell Phoebe, and after a while she sees what they see and dumps him.
Joey’s dad is in town for a job. He finds out that his dad has another woman, Ronni, has for the last six years. Ronni shows up and Chandler and Joey meet her. Joey is angry about the whole thing and urges him to tell his wife. Joey’s mom then comes to him all angry about it, she was fine with it, she knew already, he was happy and more attentive to her and now it all changed. But at the end, they decide to go back to how it was before he told her.
14 - The one with the candy hearts
Joey sets Chandler up with a woman not knowing it’s Janice. When Joey leaves them alone, he gives them his credit card to apologise, so they start drinking and next day he wakes up to her in bed. He has to dump her again even if it’s S. Valentine’s day, but this time she takes it well because she thinks that he’ll come back to her anyway.
Ross tries going out with a woman from his building, then his ex-wife and Susan show up at the same place. Susan then has to go so Ross invites Carol to join them. He talks and laughs with her and doesn’t even notice when his date goes away.
The three girls do a cleansing ritual to stop the bad-dates cycle, but then Rachel throws alcohol in the fire. They have to call the firemen.
15 - The one with the stoned guy
Chandler is offered a promotion, and he quits. He goes to a career counselor. Hours of tests and it turns out he is best suited for a career in data processing for a large multinational corporation, what he did before. They really wanted him at that place, though, so when they offer a big enough promotion, he accepts and now he has a big office instead of the old cubicle and also a secretary.
Phoebe knows a guy who’s looking for a chef. She needs to cook dinner for him as a sort of audition, and she hired a waitress, Wendy, to Rachel’s dismay. Wendy then cancels, Rachel accepts only at twice the money she offered Wendy. When the time comes, the guy Steve is completely out of it because he smoked stuff in the car, so the night is a disaster.
Ross has a date with Celia who works at the museum too, but Marcel attacks her hair. Then they’re about to do it but she wanted him to talk dirty and he couldn’t.
16 - The one with two parts: part 1
Joey and Chandler meet Ursula, Phoebe’s sister who works as a waitress. The sisters haven’t talked in years. Joey likes this Ursula and goes out with her, not knowing (or caring) that Phoebe is hurt by that. The guys urge her to talk to him about how the whole thing makes her feel, but when she tries, she finds Ursula in his apartment.
17 - The one with two parts: part 2
Rachel hurts her ankle taking off the Christmas lights (…) and they meet two cute doctors (Clooney and friend from ER) but they used Monica’s insurance because Rachel doesn’t have one. They invite them over but then fight with each other until they think it was crazy to put the wrong name and she pays with a check.
Joey is really taken by Ursula but she stops seeing him and he’s hurt, so Phoebe talks to her but gains nothing, so she poses as Ursula to break up with him, but then when he kisses her goodbye he knows it’s her.
Marcel almost choked on some scrabble letters so Ross took him to the hospital. The reception lady didn’t want the monkey in there, but doc Clooney helped, so Marcel’s alright.
18 - The one with all the poker
Rachel has them help her put all her resumes inside envelopes, she wants to apply for anything as long as it’s not waitressing, but then Ross notices she wrote ‘compuper’… Anyway, later she gets a reply from Saks, an interview for the ‘assistant buyer’ position. She’s very enthusiastic about it, the interview went well but then she doesn’t get it.
The girls wonder why the guys play poker by themselves, never with women, and when force to admit none of them know how to play they want to be taught so they can play too. They are tough to teach though, they are really terrible. Anyway, the girls lose the first time, and of course Monica wants a rematch. She even called a woman named Iris to teach them how to win.
The guys tease Ross because he keeps saying he’s over Rachel but he so is not.
The rematch is at Ron’s house (Marcel is still around) and the girls lose. Another match at Monica’s apartment, and at the end it’s just Ross versus Rachel, and since she just received the call that she didn’t get her dream job, Ross lets her win. She raised big time, no more 50cent limits but instead it was more than 50 dollars, she even got the girls to lend her 17dollars. She got a full-house, but he never showed his hand.
19 - The one where the monkey gets away
Rachel is upset that Barry and Mindy are going to get married.
She takes care of Marcel but then she leaves the door open and he gets out. She asks for the guys help and they look through the four floors of the building. Ross gets home to try to ‘woo her’ but then she tells him… she even called Animal Control, making him angry because Marcel is unregistered and they might take him away, and also put Ross in prison. He is very, very upset, but when the control-lady takes Marcel, Rachel threatens to tell her supervisor that she shot Phoebe with a tranquilliser dart (which is true).
Ross now tries again to ask her out, but Barry barges in (see?!? everybody opens that door without keys!) saying he’s still in love with her.
20 - The one with the evil orthodontist
Rachel goes on a date with Barry and has fun, then in the afternoon she sleeps with him even after telling her friends she was going to end it.
Chander went on a perfect date, but when he calls her and leaves a message on her machine, she doesn’t call him back. She had the wrong number, so she stops by the bar to check on him.
Mindy asks her to be her maid of honor, and then tells her Barry might be having an affair, just like he did when he was engaged to Rachel and he had an affair with Mindy on the side, so they realise that’s his way. They go to him to both break up with him, but then he’s all apologetic to Mindy and she takes him back.
21 - The one with the fake Monica
Someone stole Monica’s credit card, and Monica is more upset about the thing that this woman seems to be enjoying her life more than her. So she finds her and she likes her a lot, and starts spending time with her, living a wild life until the woman gets arrested.
Joey is looking for a stage name and Chandler suggests Joseph Stalin.
Marcel is acting out and the vet says he needs time with other monkeys or he’ll get aggressive, so they send him to a zoo, and he gets accepted in San Diego.
22 - The one with the ick factor
Ross is upset because Rachel had a dream about having sex with Chandler, then since he keeps asking she admits she had another where Joey was there too, the three of them, and sometimes she wasn’t even there. At the end, Ross hears her having a dream about him and in his shock he kinda wakes her up. It could have been their great moment, but right then his beeper beeps because his baby is about to be born.
Phoebe is looking for a job, and Joey suggests she might be Chandler’s secretary for the two weeks he needs. She seems kinda terrible, honestly, but everybody there likes her of course. She didn’t tell anyone she knew him though, because apparently nobody likes him, and he’s shocked to learn that. She explains that they think he’s a great boss, but they are not his friends anymore because he’s their boss.
Monica is dating ‘young Ethan’, who is a senior in college and she told him she’s 22 while she’s actually 26. He tells her that he’s never had sex before, so after they do it she wants to be honest too and tells him that she’s 26 (25 and 13 months to be precise :lol ) so he tells her the truth as well, he is a senior alright, but not in college, in high school. She really liked him, and he said he was in love with her and keeps calling, but she breaks it off anyway because 17 really is too young for her.
23 - The one with the birth
Carol is giving birth and Phoebe catches Ross and Susan fighting so she accidentally locks the three of them inside a cupboard. Carol is left alone with Rachel flirting with her doctor…
Ross and Susan keep fighting until Phoebe tells them of how when she was growing up “my dad left and my mother died and my stepfather went to jail, so I barely had enough pieces of parents to make one whole one, and here’s this little baby who has like three whole parents who care about it so much that they’re fighting over who gets to love it the most and it’s not even born yet. It’s just the luckiest baby in the whole world.”
Phoebe wears a worker’s outfit to get them out of there, of someone called Ben, but then the door is opened and they rush out, and I love it that when Ross and Susan agree to call the baby Ben and tell the others, Phoebe does a knowing Aww.
Joey helps a single mom. Monica is sad because she doesn’t have a baby and she wants one, and Chandler tries to comfort her.
24 - The one where Rachel finds out
Joey is in need of money so has a job for a ‘fertility study’, basically donating his sperm for two weeks, and he’s not allowed to have sex during that time. Melanie really wants to have sex though, so he instead is ‘there for her’. She really appreciates it ^_^
Ross has to go to China for the museum.
Joey and Chandler make fire because the guys are having a barbecue.
Ross can’t be there for Rachel’s birthday, but he gave the boys a gift for her, and the gift moved her because it was something meaningful that she mentioned ages ago. Chandler accidentally tells her that Ross is in love with her, and the girls are all shocked, and Rachel had no idea because after the first time he mentioned maybe someday asking her out, he never actually said anything ever again, so she didn’t think much about it.
She tries to see him at the airport before he heaves but she’s too late and he’s already boarding, and she tried to leave a message with the hostess, and to be fair the hostess tried her best, but Rachel just told her the wrong description, Ross’ jacket didn’t seem very blue actually, and she didn’t give her a name …so the hostess told the message to another man.
Rachel is seeing Carl, that she met at the coffeehouse, but she keeps thinking about Ross, and is very conflicted, but at the end she leaves Carl at her house and she runs to the airport, only when she arrives, he’s coming out with another girl… and he kissed her.
