Friends season 9

What do you know, Chandler is handsome again. The characters are now all grown up, even Joey, except in a few scenes where he is again a moron. Unfortunately the Joey-Rachel thing comes out time and again, which is even more annoying than the Ross-Rachel thing. Anyway, I liked Monica and Chandler more than anybody, and really Chandler's character is the one who grew up more than anyone else.

1- The one where no one proposes

Phoebe and Ross believe that Rachel thinks she’s engaged with Ross, while she tells Monica she’s engaged to Joey.

Rachel tells Ross before Joey can talk to her, then Joey walks in and explains it all, and also tells her that the ring is Ross’ and he was going to propose.

They talk about dating again, but then Ross realises that she had said yes to Joey…

2- The one where Emma cries

Rachel takes the baby home, and the girls stay with her a bit to watch the cute baby, but Rachel wants to cuddle little Emma and decides to wake her up, despite Phoebe telling her she should never wake up a sleeping baby, and then the little one doesn’t stop crying for hours. Eventually she lets others try, and Monica does it, the baby sleeps, finally, so Rachel wants her to stay there to help when the baby cries.

Chandler couldn’t sleep thinking of his important meeting the next day, so he sleeps right through it, and ends up agreeing to run their office in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Monica is not happy about that.

Ross is still mad about the whole engagement thing, and won’t talk to Joey (come on, his only mistake was to wait so long before telling anyone, but it was a difficult situation and it was Joey…). Joey insists, tells him to hit him and it will make it better, but when Ross tries to punch him, Joey instinctively ducks and Ross breaks his thumb.

3- The one with the pediatrician

Joey and Phoebe agree to a double date, each bringing someone for the other. Joey forgets, though, and tells her the name Mike to say something, so then he goes to the coffeeshop and yells ‘Mike!’ to see if there’s one in there, and there is!

Of course, Joey being a moron, he goes to far in his stories and it is impossible for Phoebe to believe that they are actually long time friends, so the truth comes out.

Still, when he sees her at the coffeehouse, they talk and he asks her out.

Rachel is crazy. Instead of listening to Ross (well, when does she ever listen to anyone???) she keeps calling her pediatrician day and night for any stupid little thing, so the guy doesn’t want to be their doctor anymore. Ross didn’t want her to go to his pediatrician to hide the fact that he still goes there.

Chandler tells Monica that she doesn’t have to leave, he will stay four days in Tulsa and three in New York every week, but she says she wants to stay with him, until she gets an offer from a restaurant in New York that she can’t refuse, so she accepts it.

4- The one with the sharks

Ross upsets Phoebe saying she never had a serious relationship (which is not true: the policeman would have been pretty serious if he didn’t have the habit of shooting birds from his bedroom window, and then David would have been hella serious had he not gone to Minsk. She had serious relationship, only they were short ones, but not her fault!)

Then Ross tells Mike about it, and then tries to take it back inventing a guy for Phoebe’s past.

But then Phoebe tells him the truth and Mike stays, even kisses her, he likes her a lot.

Chandler has to work this weekend so Monica surprises him by going to Tulsa. By some reason she know think that he masturbates over sharks. They will clear things out.

5- The one with Phoebe's birthday dinner

Phoebe plans a birthday dinner, happy to be the whole six of them together.

But then:

Chandler smoked because in Oklahoma they can smoke in public places if there are less than 15 people there (apparently) , and of course Monica makes a biiiiiig deal out of it when he goes home, so they fight.

Rachel makes such a big deal of leaving Emma that she argues with Ross and then they lock themself out of the apartment and have to wait for Ross’ mother to arrive, and then Rachel only agrees to go out if Judy (the mom) comes along with the baby. Rachel keeps looking at the baby and getting upset for every little thing, (how is it the end of the world is the baby lost a sock?) she is unbearable.

Phoebe is upset about the evening, of course, then Mike calls and she leaves, and everybody leaves, leaving Joey there alone who eats dinner for six and even the birthday cake.

6- The one with the male nanny

Monica is so happy about her new job, and tells Chandler that a guy, Jeffrey, is the funniest guy she ever met. He hates that. It hurts. Joey and Ross understands that immediately when they hear what she said, but she didn’t think of it at all.

Phoebe and Mike exchange keys to their apartment. David comes to visit her all of a sudden, and she doesn’t tell him about Mike. Then she tells him, but they kiss anyway. They are saying goodbye when Mike walks in.

Ross and Rachel look for a nanny. Ross can’t get over the fact that Sandy is a guy. He thinks it’s weird, that it’s not a normal job for a straight guy to take care of babies. Ross can’t stand that the guy is so sensitive he cries from time to time, can cook and loves babies. Rachel and Joey like him, but Ross can’t bear it so he wants to fire him.

7- The one with Ross's inappropriate song

Ross sings ‘I like big butts’ and Emma ‘laughs’ (the title seems to be Baby Got Back). Rachel tries anything else but she only laughs at that song, so they sing it to her.

Phoebe meets Mike’s parents. His parents are rich, and she starts acting weird: she dresses like the girls told her to and speaks weirdly, so Mike tells her to be herself and she does, telling them the truth about her past. She tries hard all evening, but his parents don’t like her, but Mike doesn’t care and tells her he loves her.

Joey is interested in investments, so Monica suggests real estate, and she knows Richard selling his apartment so Joey goes there with Chandler and they see a tape marked Monica and Chandler’s upset about it. But actually Richard taped over her old tape and it’s not hers anymore.

8- The one with Rachel's other sister

It’s Thanksgiving.

Rachel’s sister Amy comes visiting. As spoilt as can be. Her married boyfriend cancelled on her so Rachel invites her to come with them.

She’s so annoying, much worse than when we first met Rachel, much worse than Jill. She can’t remember Emma’s name and even thinks Phoebe’s name is Emma.

Amy goes on and on about her having the baby if Rachel and Ross die, and acts offended when they tell her Emma will go to Chandler and Monica.

Joey was supposed to be with his fellow friends at the parade, but he forgot.

9- The one with Rachel's phone number

Rachel has a night out with Phoebe - she really thought there was nothing a bit too far with her attire? She was barely dressed, her boobs were almost out… but that’s ok, if she feels comfortable that’s okay. I just don’t know how can she feel comfortable like that…

Anyway , Ross and Mike spend time together at home while he watches the baby, but have nothing to say to each other.

Rachel gave her number to a guy but then she doesn’t want Ross to answer the phone so the girls ask him to stay there and answer all calls. Rachel is so dumb sometimes that when they get home, she leaves Ross alone at home for a little while, just enough for him to get that call… anyway, he just hides it and doesn’t talk about it.

Joey has great tickets for a game and he wants to go with Chandler, but Chandler has to stay in with Monica so he tells Joey he has to stay in Tulsa, but then Joey thinks Monica is with another guy and calls him to rush home. Joey finds them out but they are ok. Monica lets him go to the game, but then Chandler sees the tickets are for the next day so goes back to Monica.

10- The one with Christmas in Tulsa

It’s Christmas and Chandler has to spend it in Tulsa working - he justifies it saying he has to, even if he doesn’t like his job because after all, who does? Well, everyone in that room apparently, lucky devils.

Chandler sends everyone else away, only pretty Wendy stays with him (which makes Monica jealous when she calls and hears about it) and Wendy makes pretty clear advances at him. He stops her, saying he’s happily married, so she asks him what is he doing with her in Tulsa if he’s happy with his wife…

A bit of flashbacks goes on…

Then Chandler arrives home, saying he quit his job because he couldn’t stand it to be so distant all the time.

11- The one where Rachel goes back to work

Monica and Chandler think of what he could do from now on, and he likes the idea of going into advertising. He talks with a guy that Monica knows, and he offers him an unpaid internship. So now he wants to wait to have a baby. They talk about it and decide to try anyway.

Rachel finds out that Gavin, the guy who did her job while she was having the baby, is taking over her job so she says he’s coming to work right away (she has worked there for five years? wow)

He turns out not so bad after all, and watches Emma while she gives her presentation.

Phoebe is short on money so Joey finds her a job as an extra on his show, and he’s really patient with her, but she’s terrible and crazy so they fire her.

12- The one with Phoebe's rats

Molly is the new nanny for Emma. A very pretty girl: Ross is okay with her, right? Not with the guy who was extraordinary with children, but with the pretty girl he’s okay, who would have thought.

Ross is worried that Joey will sleep with her, never call her back and drive her away, and asks him to stay away from her (quite annoying that there’s never a girl who says no to Joey…)

But, surprise, this time Joey can’t have the girl because the girl already has her own girl! Good for her.

Mike finds Bob, the rat in Phoebe’s apartment she puts food out for. The rat has babies, but a trap kills the parent, so Phoebe adopts them.

Rachel still can’t stand Gavin, but Monica says he acts like a jerk because he likes her (oh how I hate this, really really hate this, when will women stop thinking it’s right for a man to be a jerk if he likes them??? When will someone teach all the boys and girls of this world that being nice is a good thing, and if you like someone you act extra nice to them, you don’t beat them up or make their life hell???)

so Rachel talks about this to him and he agrees and kisses her and she kisses him back, and Ross sees all that.

13- The one where Monica sings

Joey has to have his eyebrows done for some new shots, but he screams as if the woman is torturing him and she only just started with tweezers. He leaves the place with only one done. Chandler does the other one for him.

Monica  sings at Mike’s pianobar and people loves her because her shirt is totally see-through.

Rachel and Ross argue like the silly ones they always are, and she goes back to live with Joey, with Emma.

14- The one with the blind date

Joey and Phoebe want Ross and Rachel to get back together, so they set them up for terrible blind dates. Actually, they send nobody to Ross, so he thinks he’s been stood up, and send a horrible date to Rachel, but when they talk about it later, Rachel figures it out.

15- The one with the mugging

Chandler starts his unpaid internship. The others are young and call him sir.

Joey has an audition for a big Broadway thing starred and directed by Leonard Hayes. Leonard thinks Joey can’t act, but gives him advice that doesn’t make much sense. He comes back and he hasn’t got time to go to the bathroom, so he’s all squirmy and Leonard likes him, so he drinks before every scene.

Ross and Phoebe are walking when they get mugged, but Phoebe knew the guy, they were friends when she lived on the street. She was a mugger too, for some time, and they act all shocked by they knew she had a hard life when she was young. Problem is, it turns out that she mugged Ross when she was 14.

16- The one with the boob job

Mike spends a lot of time at Phoebe’s apartment, and realises that he doesn’t want to go home anymore, and asks her to live together, and she says yes. Monica jokes with her about an imminent wedding, but he had already an awful marriage and doesn’t want to get married again.

Ever. And she realises that she will want to get married one day, finally have a sort of normal life.

So, it hurts but they break up.

Monica and Chandler are in money trouble now that he doesn’t work, and apparently they spend more than they make so she wants to borrow some money (oh come on, I know they are not great on reality and stuff here, but Chandler gave him thousands of money and now she has to ‘borrow’???). Later Chandler does the same (again, ‘borrow’????). Joey tells him that the money Monica borrowed was for a boob job. So Joey gives them both 2000$.

Rachel has the apartment baby-proofed, and Joey can’t do anything anymore.

17- The one with the memorial service

Rachel gave Huggsy, Joey’s stuffed penguin, to Emma.

Phoebe misses Mike a lot.

Ross writes about himself on a college alumni page, and as a joke Chandler writes he made a dinosaurs and have sex with it, so Ross made a page for Chandler writing that he’s gay, and Chandler writes that he died. Nobody responds to that. Ross writes that Chandler will have a memorial for him. One man shows up, but he came for Chandler thinking he’s gay. Then one girl, who had a crush on him, but then he appears telling her he’s alive, and she calls him weirdo and goes away.

18- The one with the lottery

Anyone but Ross puts in 50$ to buy lottery tickets together.

Chandler is waiting to see if he got the assistant job, and is really tense.

There is a bit of bickering about the tickets, who gets how many and what are they going to do with the money.

Chandler is really sad he didn’t get the assistant job. It turns out he was too good for the assistant job, so they offer him a better position: junior copywriter. That was Joey’s wish and it came true.

One of the tickets Phoebe lost when she wanted them to stop yelling was found by someone who won 10.000$

19- The one with Rachel's dream

Monica’s restaurant is filled for a long time, so she can’t go to Vermont for the weekend Chandler planned. Chandler can’t cancel the reservation so he goes there with Ross since he can’t have a refund, but when he arrives there is no reservation and they have to pay 600$ for the room. To make up for it, Ross wants to take anything complimentary the hotel has in store.

Joey’s character in Days of Our Lives is going thru a very romantic moment (wasn’t he playing a woman in a man’s body? No more of that?). Rachel is affected.

Ross ate all the maple candy and is in sugar overdose.

20- The one with the soap opera party

Ross has to show two professors around, and one of them is a pretty woman. Her dating history is impressive, she’s dated only geniuses and nobel-winners. Ross thinks that because of that he has no chance with her, but then he and Rachel see her making out with Joey.

Joey has a party every year with the people from the show, and every year he gives them tickets for some thing or another to keep them away. Rachel finds out so she goes too, then she’s found out by the others so they learn about it and they all go (nobody told poor Chandler though)

Rachel gets given a lot of guys’ phone numbers, Monica acts crazy and have actors sign their name on her bra.

21- The one with the fertility test

Since Monica is not yet pregnant, they go to do fertility tests. They meet Janice there.

The results is not good, there is a problem with both of them. They might never get pregnant.

Rachel had a gift certificate for a massage at a spa, but Phoebe usually hates big corporations, and makes her promise not to go there, but Rachel goes anyway, and it turns out Phoebe works there.

Joey knows nothing Charlie talks about. He asks help from Ross, but he can never remember what is left and what is right.

22- The one with the donor

Phoebe gets invited to Mike’s sister’s party.

Rachel has to take Charlie shopping, and Phoebe goes with them. Rachel still likes Joey so she’s jealous. Charlie heard them talking, but understood that it is Phoebe who likes Joey.

Phoebe wears a fabulous black dress to go to the party, to ‘show’ that she’s over Mike and not lose face, but then she meets David, and suddenly she doesn’t care about the party and goes to have a drink with him.

Chandler brings home a guy, Zach, he wants to be their sperm donor. This Zach is indeed perfect, a great guy, but Monica doesn’t want to get pregnant by someone else’s sperm, so they decide on adoption.

Ross tried to impress a professor but the guy fell asleep.

23- The one in Barbados part 1

Ross has to give a speech in Barbados and his friends go with him.

When they get there, a woman asks for Ross’s autograph. She doesn’t recognise Joey, she doesn’t even own a tv. He went first with Joey and Charlie, the others will join him later.

David is to go there with Phoebe, but while talking she accidentally says “Mike and I”, so he asks Chandler why she broke up with Mike and thus he plans to ask her to marry him.

In Barbados, it rains heavily. Charlie wants to go to all seminars and Joey has nothing to do.

Charlie loves Ross’s speech when he reads it to her beforehand, but then Chandler opens a spam email and a virus wipes out the computer, and the speech only copy is gone. He writes it again with Charlie’s help, and it’s really weird to see that when she goes out to have dinner with Joey, Ross and Rachel look at them because Ross wants Charlie and Rachel wants Joey.

Monica warned Phoebe that David was going to propose, and she would say yes, but before he has his chance Mike walks in and tells her that he loves her and he proposes to her. She says no, for now she only wanted to know that they would, eventually.

Poor David goes away. It would have been better for him if he never went to Minsk. It ‘ruined his career’, he says, and he lost Phoebe (and also a toe).

24- The one in Barbados part 2

Ross’s speech is a success. Charlie had fun writing the speech with Ross, and Joey had fun with Rachel. So they talk and she breaks up with him.

Monica wants to play ping-pong since outside it’s still raining. Chandler and Phoebe know how she gets, so they refuse to play, but Mike wants to, because he is awesome at the game.

They each win a game so they play again and it goes on and on and they are still even, then she hurts her hand and is so sad about losing that Chandler steps in her place and wins the game (he shows he’s good at the game, but still, Mike had been playing for hours… it still counts since the change had been accepted by him, but it’s not exactly fair enough to justify Monica’s smug ‘loser!’ she yells at Mike)

Joey and Rachel talk and she tells him that she likes him, and he says it can’t happen, because of Ross… but then he sees Ross kissing Charlie and goes back to kiss Rachel.
