The one with the evil character. Forget Voldemort, Umbridge is the one everybody hates.
Harry is alone, at the park; Dudley and his friends arrive and Dudley mocks him for his nightmares, about Cedric and his mom, when it suddenly becomes dark. The two cousins run but they are attacked by Dementors so Harry conjures a Patronus. Mrs Figg walks them home.
Vernon thinks the state of his son is Harry’s fault.
Harry receives a letter from the Ministry expelling him for underage magic. At night, Tonks, Moody and Kinglsley, and another two people, come to get him and they fly away. On a street, Moody stomps his cane twice and another house appears. There’s Sirius and Lupin talking but Mrs Weasley won’t let him hear anything. Ron and Hermione are happy to see him, though she’s very worried, but Harry is angry at them because he heard nothing from them all summer. Dumbledore made them swear not to tell him anything.
Snape is part of the order too.
Harry learns that Minister Fudge refuse to believe him and the Prophet calls him a liar. Sirius wants to tell Harry more, but all the adults are against it.
Arthur takes him to the Ministry for his hearing. He sees Lucius talking to Fudge.
Dumbledore comes to defend him. Fudge doesn’t let Harry speak but Dumbledore brings Mrs Figg as a witness that there really were dementors around.
Sirius goes with Harry to the station as a dog (in a black bathrobe? what did he have on?). Malfoy taunts him, Harry gets mad.
He can see the Thestrals, Luna can too. Hermione calls her Loony. At school, Dumbledore says Professor Grubbly-Plank will replace Hagrid while he’s on leave, and professor Dolores Umbridge is the new Dada teacher (defence against the dark arts). She’s all in pink and she interrupts his speech. Seamus reads the Prophet in the dorm and says his mom didn’t want him to come back because of his lies.
Umbridge’s lesson is all theoretical and when Harry mentions Voldemort she calls him a liar and gives him detention. She has him write ‘I must not tell lies’ with a special quill that uses his own blood. Hermione notices it but he doesn’t want to tell anyone. In the forest, he finds Luna petting the Thestrals, barefoot because all her shoes ‘disappeared’. She can see them because her mom died when she was 9. She’s quite insightful.
McGonagall complains to Dolores about her medieval punishments… as if she knows about the quill???
Dolores is made High Inquisitor. She inspects all teachers lessons, and has many rules: no music, no Weasley products, ‘proper dress decorum’… Trelawney is fired; Dumbledore has her stay and live at Hogwarts, but he keeps ignoring Harry.
He writes to Sirius and he answers by fireplace.
Hermione wants Harry to teach them all defence, a bunch of kids hear her proposal but they don’t believe him. Then Luna says he can conjure a patronus, Neville says he killed a basilisk, Ron that he fought 100 dementors, but he says he’s just lucky. They all sign their names on a list. Umbridge bans all students organisations. Neville finds the Room of Requirement, so they meet there. Draco and other Slytherin join the Inquisitorial Squad.
Before the holidays, Harry remains alone with Cho and kisses her. He tells his friends she was sort of crying and Hermione explains to them how Cho feels.
Harry keeps having strange dreams, visions, until one night he sees Arthur being attacked. Dumbledore has him found, then he orders Snape to give him Occlumency lessons.
Arthur is back for Christmas. Sirius’ face was burned from the family tree when he was 16 and ran away and stayed at James’ place. Hagrid’s back and tells them he’s been to speak to giants, but it didn’t go too well.
Ten prisoners escape Azkaban, Bellatrix included. Neville tells Harry she tortured his parents to insanity. Seamus apologises to Harry.
Harry teaches them the patronus. Umbridge and her squad find them by destroying the wall. Dumbledore takes the blame then disappears with his phoenix (Percy had both Harry and Cho by their collars).
Umbridge is now the new headmistress. We see all the members punished with the blood quill. Not Cho though. Hagrid takes them to see Grawpy, his giant half-brother (much more harmless than in the book). Snape continues their lessons until Harry enters his mind with a Protego and sees James bullying him. Snape tells him to get out.
All of a sudden is OWLs exams, fireworks go off, the twins fly in and make chaos; During a test Harry falls down and, even if awake, has a ‘vision’ of Voldemort torturing Sirius. They break into Umbridge’s office to use the floo but they’re caught, and also other DA members. Snape says he has no veritaserum left to give her, and doesn’t reply to Harry’s message about Padfoot in trouble. Umbridge is about to crucio Harry when Hermione intervenes and takes her to the forest where Dumbledore’s ‘secret weapon’ is. The centaurs find them, Umbridge insults them and they take her away.
Luna suggests they all fly to London, with Thestrals. Ginny and Neville are there too. They find the hall of prophecies but Sirius is not there. When Harry touches his prophecy sphere, he hears it all. Lucius arrives explaining that he only saw what Voldemort wanted him to see. Bellatrix and other Death Eaters are there. The kids are surrounded. They fight, the kids end up in the room with the veil, the other five kids get taken by the Death Eaters. Order members arrive to save them. The prophecy gets broken. Sirius tells Harry to go away, he doesn’t of course. Sirius calls him James, he defeats Lucius but then Bellatris AK him; Harry crucios her with little results, Voldemort and Dumbledore appear and fight. Fudge and other ministry men arrive and see Voldemort before he goes away.
Now the Prophet is all pro-Harry, Fudge is to resign, Umbridge is to be investigated, and Dumbledore is again headmaster.
Luna looks for her things, then they reach the train. No big talk between Dumbledore and Harry, just a few lines on how he didn’t want to burden him any more than he already was.
