It was terrible, it was not a movie, it was a series of comedy sketches, the two protagonists were not spontaneous in the least, the acting made me cringe. I learned only later that they’re a couple of comedians, and that’s the rhythm they keep, not movie-like at all, but still I didn’t find it particularly funny because too fake. I did not like it, and even giving it a good try, the story ended up boringly obvious, pathetically predictable, and rather annoying.
It starts with a guy and a girl in wedding gear escaping into a bus full of boy-scouts, and since she was crying the children ask him what he did to her, and she dares him to tell them all that happened. It started two weeks prior, they were driving back to their hometown and already fighting in the car. Their families are very close and even work together. HIs father makes ricotta, while her father makes scorze, so they joined to make the best cannoli in all Sicily. They even called their latest products “cannoli degli innamorati”, like “the lover’s cannoli” or something, and they put their picture on all the ads. Their mothers have always been friends.
Claudio and Anna are going back to their hometown where everyone is sure that they are still together are happily in love, and maybe about to get married. Truth is, they got together at the end of high school, then she became a serious student at a university, good conduct and good grades, while he spent his time playing games and failing every single test.
They were living together until she broke up with him and then starts a relationship with Francois, her French teacher. Months later, they go back home to tell their family they separated but as soon as they arrive everyone is so happy, already have ready the spumante to celebrate, and so Claudio cowardly says nothing about that and instead asks her to marry him. The families celebrate and take them to the room especially prepared for the two of them, where they are encouraged to produce grandkids for them…
Claudio then tells his cousin in the middle of the village that he is about to get married, so in a minute everyone knows. Gossip was always quick, but with Whatsapp it’s now instantaneous.
The mayor has put money on their father’s business, he wants the lover’s cannolo to be a success all around the world, and their marriage is what is going to launch it.
Since their parents want grandkids, Anna is tempted to tell them that Claudio can’t, but then her grandma starts feeling bad so she takes it back and tells her they’re actually expecting a child.
Claudio is so stupid that he not only has a name for his own penis, Jack, but he really believes she’s pregnant. Their parents ask the priest to marry them right away, three days at the most. All their relatives bring the most bizarre gifts, then Francois arrives, not at all happy to learn that she didn’t tell her family about him, but she is even about to marry Claudio.
They try asking the mayor’s help, but he can only think about investments from Japan and how much their parents have spent already, they even bought a big house to live all together… so he insists they must marry.
Claudio gets the idea now that he is still in love with Anna and that Saturday, while they are all inside the church, he stops the ceremony telling everyone they broke up a year before. At that point, they escape.
Their parents start quarrelling.
With the children, they go to the beach to play together and have fun. Claudio texts Francois to come and get her, but she decided that she wants to stay there with him instead, she remembered how funny she thought he was, so she doesn’t leave and stays there with Claudio.
When the families arrive they are all fighting, and the couple now wonder how they’re going to tell them that they got back together…
