Spider-Man 2 - 2004

 During the opening credits, there are drawings of what happened in book 1.

Peter is a pizza-delivery guy but he’s always late because of being Spiderman every time it’s needed, so he loses that job, and at the Bugle Jameson only accepts pictures of Spiderman but is still writing him as a menace.

He also has no time for classes and risks failing. He forgot his own birthday and finds aunt May with Harry and MJ with a surprise party. Harry still wants to know who Spiderman is, but promises to introduce Peter to Doctor Otto Octavius, working at Oscorp now, and Peter wants to write a paper on him.

May has money trouble as well, and Peter has no money to pay rent.

Octavius tells him that he should work hard and not be lazy, that such intelligence must be used for the good of mankind…

Peter washes the Spiderman costume with his laundry and keeps it hung in his wardrobe :lol

He arrives late at the theatre to watch MJ because two men stole a car and then he can’t enter anymore once the show’s started. He calls her to apologise, and he’s at it again, the ‘if only I could tell her how I feel about her’ stuff. This friendship doesn’t really work for him, they kinda act as if they were a couple and don’t even know it.

Suddenly no more webs come out of his wrists… so he has to take the lift because he was on a roof, and then walk home.

Peter is present for Octavius’ big presentation of “a new fusion-based energy source”. He attaches the four mechanical arms to himself, injecting nano-stuff in himself so they are controlled by his brain. It is A.I., but a chip in his neck helps him keep his brain in control.

He activates his machine and the ‘fusion reaction’ is a success: “the power of the sun in the palm of my hand”… then it goes in overload, but he does not accept “failure” and refuses to shut it off, his wife Rosie is killed when everything shatters and his own AI arms overload and his safety-chip burns. Later, those arms attack all doctors and nurses that were about to cut them off and he escapes. 

The Bugle calls him Dr Octopus, the new villain in town.

Otto realises that his wife and his dream are dead, and also that the chip is gone, right when the AI arms start talking in his head, making him do stuff.

So he steals money to restart his project, but bigger this time. Peter and May were in the bank. He ‘leaves’ her to become Spiderman then she’s taken hostage, Octopus climbs a building with her along, then stops to fight Spiderman. May hangs in there - literally - with the aid of her umbrella. 

Stan Lee is again under all that, helping a woman get away from the debris falling down.

May hits Octopus before he kills Spiderman, then she’s brought to safety.

Peter works as a photographer at the big party in honor of Captain John Jameson, Jameson’s son, the astronaut, who arrives with MJ. She agreed to marry him and he makes an announcement now - pretty quick huh? :/

Peter and MJ have a fight, she doesn’t know him anymore, she says everyone went to see her how but her best friend, him. 

He starts losing his powers. He also has a fight with Harry, very angry about Spiderman again.

Peter doesn’t want to be Spiderman anymore, maybe… so he can live his life, and throws the Spiderman costume away. He resumes his life as a student and friend.

Peter asks MJ to start again with him but she says it’s too late. Jameson is happy when a man brings him the costume of Spiderman. 

Peter not only doesn’t do the police’s job anymore, but he turns his back on a guy beaten on the street… Peter azlso tells May the truth about not stopping the robber because he wanted revenge and so he went out and shot Ben for his car.

Otto goes to Harry, wants more tritium, not caring that he might destroy the city, so Harry makes him a deal: “kill Spiderman, I’ll give you all the tritium you need. On second thought, bring him to me… alive” and as a clue where to find him, Harry gives him Peter’s name.

A building is on fire, Peter goes in as himself to save a little girl (so sweet when she tried to help him) but is hurting when he learns someone else got stuck and didn’t make it.

May talks to Spiderman as a hero, one everybody needs, so Peter tries his powers again and almost kills himself (absurd that he didn’t, falling from a roof like that, or it would be if he had no powers anymore, but I guess this proves he never lost the power, he can’t).

MJ thinks about Peter again but he lets her down again and tells her He doesn’t love her… then Otto attacks. He saves her but then Otto kidnaps her… and now Peter finds his powers again. He steals his costume back and goes to save her… but she isn’t there and he has to save a train full of people, and with his own face since his mask got ruined. “He’s just a kid” someone says, and two kids give him back his mask, but Otto arrives again and takes him away, already too tired after the train.

Otto leaves Spiderman at Harry’s house and takes all the tritium he finds there. Harry wants to kill him but then stops when he sees Peter’s face. They can’t really talk about Norman though because there is Octopus to stop and MJ to save. He fights Octopus and wins but doesn’t know how to shut it down so he takes off his mask and asks Otto for help. Peter talks to him and Otto’s mind fights the AI arms and takes control… and the big plan is for him to take that sun-like thing and drown it in the river.

MJ sees Peter’s face, and he finally tells her why they can’t be together, because Spiderman will always have enemies.

Harry is losing his mind after what he learned, and hears his father’s cry of ‘avenge me’, and also the Goblin’s laughter… he says no but then he finds all the Goblin stuff.

Right when she should enter the church, MJ runs away in her wedding dress and goes to Peter. They get together and kiss until he has to leave as Spiderman.
