Clueless - 1995

Nothing special, but quite representative of those years. It bothers me though that they called the guy ‘her stepbrother’, it makes it sound wrong that they get together.

It’s the life of a spoiled, rich teenager living in Beverly Hills who thinks it’s normal to have a computer match her clothes to choose the outfit for school.

Her dad’s a lawyer making lots of money. Josh is her stepbrother, and as dad says “you divorce wives, not children”. Good man.

She drives a car without a license, she’s called Cher and when she gets a C in ‘Debate’ in her report card, she tries to talk the teacher into changing her grade, it worked before with other teachers, but not this time so she plans to make him happy by matching him with another teacher and sends her a note, than invents quotes from her to him.

She got tickets for her driving, so finally dad forbids her from driving until she has a license, unless some expert driver is with her (… :/ ) so she has Josh go with her.

The teachers actually hit it off and are happy, so they give less homework and better grades.

There is a new girl, Tai, and Cher takes her up as her new project, giving her a makeover, making her popular by hanging out together, and choosing the right boy for her. Tai likes Travis but Cher keeps wanting to pair her up with Elton, but Elton prefers Cher herself and he tells her.

Cher finds herself alone at night after she rejects him, without her phone and bag after she got robbed, so she calls Josh to come get her, then she corrects Josh’s girl’s quoting of Hamlet because “I remember Mel Gibson accurately and he didn’t say that. That Polonius guy did”… still, sometimes movies are not really reliable, they change things here and there, she should really read a book too from time to time.

When she goes out with a classmate, Josh is jealous and follows her, then dances with Tai. Next date with Christian, she thinks it’ll be ‘the night’ but they watch movies and then he runs calling her ‘a friend’. It’s Dee’s boyfriend who finally tells them that Christian is gay. So they keep hanging out as friends.

Tai becomes very popular, is full of things to do, less time for Cher, actually snobs Travis.

Cher fails her driving test, badly. She’s upset then when Tai tells her she wants Josh.

It takes her a while but finally Cher realises she loves Josh and does not know how to go about it.

She wants to be better since Josh is smart and good, so she gives a lot of stuff from her house to charity (sigh… :/ as if that made her a saint, and wasn’t a good reason for her to go shopping again…).

Cher and Tai are friends again, and Tai likes Travis again.

Josh kisses Cher, so they’re together.

The two teachers she paired up get married, Tai is with Travis and everyone’s happy.
