Cold pursuit - 2019

A revenge movie, deaths all around.

Kehoe is a town in the mountains, full of snow and Nels keeps the roads clean, it’s his job.

He has a wife and a son, Kyle. It all starts when Kyle is abducted after work by some men and left in the morning at a bar in Denver, where he is found dead by overdose.

Nels firmly believes that he was never an addict, while the mother thinks they didn’t know him at all. He thinks about committing suicide, but then Dante tells him the truth. Kyle knew nothing about it, but Dante knows about the drugs and he took a small bag. He gives Nels a name, Speedo, all he knows. Nels finds Speedo and beats his face to a pulp, gets some informations and his phones, and then strangles him. He throws Speedo’s body down a waterfall.

He finds another man called Limbo who sells wedding dresses. Nels shoots him and he too goes down the waterfall. He has another name now, Santa, and he beats and shoots him too. Santa had a case of drugs.

His wife Grace leaves him.

Nels goes to see his brother who makes a few phone calls and tells him that Dante stole a kilo of cocaine from the Viking, a big drug dealer. Nels tells Brock he’ll kill him and admits he already killed three of his men, and threw them in the gorge to be eaten by the fish so they stay at the bottom.

The Viking for no reasonable reason kills a man called Baby Hawk, and leaves him at Kehoe as a warning to the other Indians and Baby Hawk’s father White Bull. They do business together and he blames them for his men.

Brock tells Nels to hire an assassin, the Eskimo so Nels gives the guy a lot of money, but then Eskimo goes straight to Viking to sell the information, and of course the name Coxman reminds him of Wingman, aka Brock, not Nels.

The Viking kills Eskimo then takes Brock out for a ride. Brock has cancer and tells the Viking that it was all his idea and that he flushed the drugs down the toilet. He dies too, of course.

Now that he knows the Indians have nothing to do with his dead men, Viking kills one of his own to send his head to them as an apology, blaming him for Baby Hawk’s death.

Dante is found dead too, an overdose…

White Bull is not satisfied with Dexter’s head, he wants “son for a son”. He kills Sly the messenger.

Nels takes the child from school before the Indians can, and takes him to his own house.

The Indians kill Viking’s man Bone.

Janitor Chuck dies next, after he told Viking who took his son.

They go to his house while he’s out with the kid. The house is empty so they go to the garage where he works.

Mustang tells this piece of information to the Indians, probably as revenge because Viking killed his love Dexter. Nels wants to shoot Viking but is caught. Before they can do anything to him, the Indians arrive, shooting.

They kill each other, but the Indians care more about the armed men than Nels and totally ignore him. Nels stops Viking from escaping, giving White Bull a chance to kill him.

12 men die, Viking is the 13th. White Bull rides with Nels while he does his job of cleaning the road from the snow.

Nels is not worried that he has a gun, the man smiles and puts it down, even falls asleep while Nels drives. They have no problem with each other after all, they were both after the same thing, avenging their son’s death.

There’s also another death, Avalanche, who was flying a parachute and lands right under his vehicle.

Nels - Liam Neeson

Grace - Laura Dern

Viking - Tom Bateman

Mustang - Domenick Lombardozzi

White Bull - Tom Jackson

P.s. the film puts up notes every time someone dies, as if they were engravings on a tombstone, just the name and a symbol that means which side they were on, but Mustang’s name was not on the list, he must be alive. Knowing there was going to be a shootout, he probably didn’t go, I guess nobody noticed…

It starts with a quote from Oscar Wilde that I’m not sure how it relates to this movie but it’s always nice whenever he’s mentioned: “some cause happiness wherever they go, others whenever they go”
