Twilight: New Moon - 2009

The Volturi idea was nice, but the movie wasn’t all that good. Sorry, this is my personal opinion, but it wasn’t well made, and once again it wasn’t well acted.

Bella is now 18 and already has nightmares about becoming old, ageing while Edward doesn’t.

She keeps hinting at him to transform her. Edward is 109. Life is difficult since she’s rather clumsy and hurts herself even unwrapping a little present. Now Edward’s family has to move town because people start noticing that Carlisle should look older.

Edward breaks up with Bella, tells her she’s not right for him but she cries and tries to follow him but faints in the woods. Sam carries her home. (we’ll learn later he’s alpha wolf).

They move right away. She screams at night, is sad for months. Her parents are scared for her.

Jacob is 16, and she has him fix an old motorbike because she wants danger to bring Edward to her.

Spending time with Jacob helps her, makes her feel good. She wants him around to feel better, but no more, she has no romantic feelings for him. He speaks of ‘forever counting on him’ then runs away and joins Sam’s group. He was scared of him before.

Now Bella is alone again. She keeps writing emails to Alice that never reach her.

Laurent appears, intent on killing Bella to do Victoria a favour, and it’s a pack of huge wolves that saves her this time. Jacob tells her he has a secret he can’t tell her. She slaps a guy for doing something to Jacob and he turns into a wolf and Jacob too, to protect her.

I guess he just turned, he wasn’t one before.

Werewolves kill vampires, they killed Laurent and now Bella tells him why Victoria keeps coming back here every time they shoo her out. (To kill Bella)

When Bella almost drowns, it’s Jake that saves her. Alice had a vision of her throwing herself off a cliff, but didn’t see Jacob saving her, so she came to her house. When Edward calls, Jacob answers and tells him Charlie is arranging a funeral, so Edward thinks she’s dead and wants to die too. It’s not easy for a vampire, so he wants to go to Italy and have the Volturi kill him.

Alice tells Bella that, and together they go to Volterra to stop him.

The Volturi denied Edward’s request, without a just reason they will not kill him. So he wants to give them a reason, by revealing himself to humans: he’s not going to attack anyone, simply undress himself under sunlight where everyone will see him.

Alice tells Bella where he is and Bella runs and is just in time to hug him, thus covering him from sight. She thinks he felt guilty for her death, but he says he can’t live in a world where she doesn’t exist. She had believed his lies easily because she thinks she’s nothing, being a mere mortal.

The Volturi now want to speak with them, and Master Aro is quite intrigued by Bella because , like Edward, he too cannot read her mind. She’s also immune to that Jane’s power: pain. But since she knows too much, they want to kill her. Edward fights a lot, until Bella begs them to kill her but not him.

Aro: “How extraordinary. You would give up your life for someone like us, a vampire, a soulless monster” - Bella: “you don’t know a thing about his soul”

Then Aro hints that it’d be ok if only Edward wanted to turn her, but Alice says that she’s seen it, Bella will be one of them, Alice herself will turn her. So they’re free to go.

Edward now tells her it was hard for him, to leave her, he only did it for her. Now he seems set on staying with her.

Edward still doesn’t want her to be transformed, but she insists and asks his family’s opinion, and they agree. Jacob is quite angry about this (does he read minds too? not really, so how can he know?) and the three of them have words, but Bella insists it’s her decision, what she wants, and that they cannot fight without hurting her. Jacob leaves. Edward says that if he turns her, it has to be forever, and asks her to marry him.
