Lara Croft : Tomb Raider - 2001

Well, Jolie has the perfect phisique to play Lara, no doubt about that. The movie was entertaining, but it would have been nice if there had been more interactions between Lara and the world, in place of all her exercising alone.

Also, it all happened at night and it was rather dark, a bit too much.

The ending was disappointing, because there was no real ending: one moment she’s escaping, the next she’s safely at home in a nice dress.

I would have also liked more Alex-Lara time, there at the end. It was a badly done ending.

It starts with a long scene where it seems like Lara is in the middle of a big adventure, only to realise when she yells Stop! that it was just a training session in her own home.

She must make lots of money tomb-raiding…

At night, a clock starts ticking. It’s in a secret place she had never seen, and she smashes a part of the wall in her house to get it. The clock is just a cover, inside it there’s something important. It all has to do with a planetary alignment that happens once every 5000 years.

A group of powerful people want to find something, Lara’s father was interested too. She shows what she found to Mr Powell, who works for those people.

At night, armed people enter her house to steal it. She’s unarmed when they arrive and still they can’t get her. She has no weapons at hand and they have automatic weapons… enough said.

She has so much money she doesn’t care what she breaks. Still, they take her ‘clock’.

She finds a letter from her late father. What those people are looking for is a triangle that can control time. It’s dangerous, and her father wants her to find the two halves of the triangle and destroy them.

Alex West is also working with Powell for money.

So, she has people fly her and her jeep to Cambogia. She finds the other group right away.

She takes the first half of the triangle, then they all fight the statues that come to life to kill them.

She meets Powell again in Venezia, where she understands that he’s working for the Illuminati, and he tells her her father was one too.

Also, that she could have her father back with the power of the triangle of time.

Then they go together to some frozen Russian place and all the men watch while Lara does all the work.

She gets the second half, then Powell kills the Illuminati man doing some kind of ritual, because of course he wants the power for himself. But he can’t do it, can’t join the two parts, doesn’t know how, so he throws a knife at Alex to force her to activate it to save him.

She does it, puts the triangle together, talks to her father who urges her to destroy it, then she watches time go back and turns the knife around before it can hit Alex. She shoots the triangle and Powell is hit instead, but he’s still strong enough to fight her.

They fist-fight because before killing her father he took his watch, the one with the picture of her mother. She wins, takes it and runs out while everything crumbles.
